I hope they're looking for permanent replacements for those nurses who should no longer have a job.
I told my husband and he had the same response you did (and I did as well). Like refusing to give the vaccine?? Bye Felicia and don't let the door hit you on the way out. I get not wanting to get it but to give it?

They did say 36 heathcare workers were given the vaccine with their shipment but no information was given for who actually did it. I just know they said they'll be hiring nurses to do it on a contract basically.

But..sadly I doubt there will be any repercussions, even county's public health administrator doesn't feel comfortable doing it ..maybe time to clean house..

Thankfully that's been the only county (out of 105) that this particular situation has come up at this time. It's still terrible though.

It sounds like the public health administrator also needs to be replaced.

And here's a nice synopsis of Fauci's press conference yesterday, with sources:

  • Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, said US coronavirus infections may be plateauing. Based on a seven-day average, coronavirus cases are declining in 46 states. In 42 of those states, the seven-day case average has fallen more than 10% from a week earlier (Bloomberg). Fauci also said he expects current vaccines will be effective against recently discovered new strains. In addition, he noted that Johnson & Johnson has enough data from its late-stage coronavirus vaccine trial to begin analysis soon. This is in line with the company's previous comment about having sufficient data by the last week of January or first week of February. However, it does not expect emergency use authorization before March (Bloomberg). A Johnson & Johnson board member said the company plans to have enough vaccines for 100M Americans by the spring (CNBC).

I've come to the conclusion that my state the rural parts of the state have had the preference in number of doses. I say that because in 2 counties alone we have 38% of the state's population but we have gotten so few doses in relation to that and although we both have the most cases in the state we're not the worst in terms of cases/population suggesting that spread is at least being somewhat mitigated and at times decreasing overall in our areas.
I haven't even been following this part of the story, but I knew that's how it would go in Kansas. I'm sure they're trying hard to avoid being accused of not concentrating the vaccine in the richest county in the state. Never mind it's the most populous and where all the spread is happening. Yeah, let's send it to the rural counties. It won't really prevent great spread, but everyone will feel better about themselves.

Literally five minutes ago, my buddy who was convinced he had Covid got an antibody test and tested positive. He absolutely had Covid.

Here's the scary part: he tested negative THREE TIMES- including two PCR tests.

Yeah, I do agree more percentage should be sent here than has been; it's been too lopsided in their efforts to send more out to the rest of the state. I'm not saying give us the bulk of it because I don't think that's right either but the share from the state has been far too little. Maybe she's expecting the doses sent to the hospital systems to pick up the slack..because that's really what's been happening (but up until now that's been healthcare workers..let's see how they do with those in Phase 2).

The county health director yesterday after the news of going to Phase 2 said they approximate about 150,000 in the county qualify with 95,000 of that being 65+ (raw numbers not caring about separating kids out it's about 25% of the county's population)...so yeah ya know..If we use those numbers out of the million they say in the state is eligible under Phase 2 that means we carry about 15% of it in just my county alone. I guess we'll see how the next few weeks work out with such extreme demand--you know I'll be watching out for updates lol.

Agreed! Same thing in my world. The husband of a customer was very sick....fit guy, early 40s, in early December. He tested negative twice, once with mild symptoms, once with more serious symptoms...both PCR tests. Doctor told him he absolutely had covid. He recovered. He had the antibody test this week...he has antibodies, he had covid. There are lots and lots of false negatives.

This is a really good point. As long as older folks who are either in long term care facilities, or homebound....are given the vaccine, I think it's an interesting idea to vaccinate those who are motivated to get the vaccine. I'd wait several hours in line to get a vaccine if I knew I wasn't jumping in front of anyone else. Vaccines sitting in the freezer for populations who are dithering over whether or not to get it...is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed.

My parents signed up for the mass vaccinations that was cancelled. Now they signed and started paying rent on a long term care facility two months before they plan to move in to be guaranteed vaccines by mid Feb. Yep, lots of motivated people here.

Daily I get neighborhood emails with any info on signups for vaccines in neighboring counties, or for that matter any mass vaccines within an hours drive. Apparently, my neighborhood of seniors is going for herd immunity.

Between that and the number of likely cases that just never got tested...holy crud.

But then Florida wouldn’t have been able to tout their numbers as the best of the initial states getting shots in peoples arms. But vaccinating out of staters (or even out of country-ers) they were able to artificially inflate their numbers.
Happy to hear the numbers are coming down! But honestly, going forward, I don't even know how to interpret big swings given the WHO's new standards for PCR testing.

Yes testing standards by WHO have changed in the last day or so. This confirms what many suspected all along...many false positives. No surprise here! We are likely to see more revisions in the near future. Wonder if they will change the criteria for Covid Deaths?

Meanwhile vaccinations are expected to increase by approximately 10% over the next hundred days. I'm waiting on the masks vs vaccinations poll. This will be a curious one IMO

I agree! I will be interested about the deaths too.
