CBR or POFQ

Hi Everyone....

Haven't been in touch in awhile but am planning a trip to Disney next August 20-30th. Have stayed at All Stars last two visits and although LOVED them wanted a change of pace this time around. Have stayed at Port Orleans (actually first year it was opened) and always said I would go back there someday. Not sure if I would still love it as much being it has converged with Dixie Landings. Never stayed at CBR and thought that may be a nice change.

Anyway......just wanted some thoughts on those two resorts and what you all think would be a good choice for us. It is me, DH and two DS ages 9 and 4 (at time of visit). Also travelling with cousin, her hubby and 12 year old DD. Want to get an adjoining room and just have a GREAT TIME!!!!

Any input would be great. These boards are awesome and I have had so much fun planning with you on my last two trips. I look forward to much planning advice again this time around!!!!

I haven't stayed at CBR so I can't say from experience but I have heard it's pretty spread out. We like POFQ because it is smaller. It's not far from the bus stop at night with very tired little ones. I don't think the merging with Dixie Landings will even be noticeable. They kept their own check-in desks and bussing is still the same. The restaurant is gone but I think that happened before the merger.

Both are nice, and other than PO-FQ no longer having its own sitdown restaurant, the merger with DXL hasn't changed the small feel or ambience in any way! It would be my 1st choice. Also, because it has merged with DXL, your you and your kids will have a choice of 2 themed pools, 2 arcades, 2 food courts... and you have that wonderful boat ride to DTD right outside your door.

Nothing against CBR, we enjoyed staying there, but it really is spread out, and the PO resorts just seem to offer a little more.

We've stayed at POFQ (twice because we love it) and CBR. We prefer POFQ. It's smaller, and there are less bus stops. POFQ does share busses with POR, but you're always first, so you will get to sit down, and you'll get off first when coming back from the parks.

The merger hasn't changed much. You will have to walk over to POR for a full-service restaurant, but it's quite possible that your walk will still be shorter than what it would have been at CBR. You also have to go to POR to rent watercraft.

The only downside to POFQ is the smaller number of pools, but that doesn't bother us at all. First of all, the resort is small and pool is huge, so it's not really crowded. But if you do spend a lot of time in quiet pools, you may want to consider POR or requesting a building at POFQ on the POR side of the resort.

Actually, there is a shuttle that will transport you from PO-FQ to PO-R if you don't want to walk!

You actually have access to 2 themed pools (PO-R and PO-FQ, and all of the quiet pools at PO-R, so you are really better off than at the other resorts. Also, you will have a choice of 2 hottubs, playground areas, and the kids can fish at Old Man Island at PO-R.

We enjoy the CBR. The theming is great as is the food court. There are activities such as bikes, boats and walkways. There's a main pool with a pool in each island. The beaches are a great place to sit and relax. We've always found this resort to be very clean and have never had any issues.

We stayed at CBR in July and just loved it. We have never stayed at POFQ do really can't compare but did stay at POR when it was Dixie Landings. We realy liked DxL, but after staying at CBR it is now our new favorite.

I think it really depends on what you are after. By the time you go the CBR will have rennovated its food court and also the main pool. That could be a plus if the inside condition of rooms, etc. is important to you. The inside of the rooms at FQ have not been rennovated since it opened. You will notice some wear and tear on the room and furnishings but we didn't find it bad. In fact, I've been reading posts that indicate the same thing at the GF so it happens everywhere.

The FQ is much smaller than CBR. This is an advantage if you don't want to walk long distances to reach services. The food court at FQ was just redone and from what I hear is very nice. And, by the time you get there, as I understand, the main pool at Riverside will have been rennovated and is suppose to be really nice. That will give you two themed pools instead of one.

We like the general atmoshphere of FQ over the other moderates. We enjoy jazz music and the "sanitized" New Orleans feel that we get from the resort. The cobbleston walkways and the greenery and plants are very nice. And, our son loves the theme in the pool area - very whimsical and imaginative with alligators playing instruments all around and water cascading from a clam shell, etc.

All in all, it just doesn't feel quite as crowded at the FQ as it does at Riverside and also CBR. That is probably because there are only 1008 rooms there. But, I think it will depend on what theme you are after and whether you want a resort that is more compact or spread out. Whatever you decide I am sure you will have a grand time.

I would have to say FQ is nicer in my opinion. It is smaller, the boat ride to DD is nice. In my opinion the pool is nicer and you can use either POR pools. We just stayed in CBR Aug 9-16. While we liked it I would definitely choose FQ over CBR, Mainly because of the size.

I also loved the theming at POFQ when I stayed there in '92. I just wasn't sure if the merge with DXL made a huge impact or not. I think with a little one who will most likely be out cold when we return to the resort every night the smaller proximity of POFQ will probably be a better choice for us. I love the fact we have access to the Riverside without staying at the larger resort. And I also love the fact that there is a shuttle to the Riverside.....very cool!!

We stayed in the Aruba section for 10 nights in 1996 and didn't have a rental car and believe me we would never do it again simply because CBR is really spread out!! Now having said that we have only stayed at 1 other Moderate and that was POFQ just for i night before we stayed at the Poly which was in July of 2001. I honestly think that out of all the moderates, that POFQ is the BEST if only because of it's size!! No matter what room you decide to stay in, the walk to anything is very short compared to what you'll get at the other moderates. It's simply the best moderate just if nothing else because of it's size!! Hope this helps, Chip.
