CBR or POFQ? Thoughts...?

Hi all! So I've been planning a trip to disney this July for several months and suddenly we've had the increible opportunity to added some other guests to my party...Originally we all intended to stay at the Poly, but now there are too many people to fit in one room. So we need a second room that won't break the bank...

We'd rather avoid the value resorts because we're not too fond of the hectic environment. So I've tentatively narrowed it down to either the CBR or the POFQ.

Basically...

We are two 25 year old males, cousins and best friends since birth

We're used to the Poly and will be traveling their daily to meet with the rest of our crew.

We have a budget of 250 per night for July 13-20.

Any suggestions? Thoughts? Other ideas that might fit the budget? We have AAA and hope to catch a discount.

Cheers,
J

We have never stayed at POFQ but we have stayed at CBR and it is our favorite resort. CBR has beautiful tropical themeing, white sandy beaches with hammocks, and friendly ducks. The rooms are the largest of all moderates at 340 sq ft with two double sinks. We usually stay in the Jamaica section and take a short walk over the bridge to the main pool and the food court (which we like). There is a sitdown restaurant on site (Shutters) but we have never eaten there. There is a great gift shop; and by the main pool, there is a nice bar if you want a drink. There are, also, quiet pools in each section to swim. We always use the bus service, and we have always had good service. Check out Safetymom's FAQ about CBR. She has a ton of great information and pictures of CBR. Have a great vacation.

My pick is CBR!!:thumbsup2 Since you originally planned to stay at the Poly, I would go with CBR the theme of this resort is going to be similar. We leave in 14 days to go back to our favorite resort!! One day we plan to stay at the poly but until that day comes its CBR:banana:

We've stayed at both.
CBR is closer in theming to the Poly.
CBR is much larger and more spread out than POFQ, so getting to any central facilities (food court, check-in, etc..) will probably take longer there.
POFQ does have the boat option for going to DTD. CBR is bus service to all parks, and DTD.

For a bigger group, I'd say CBR. POFQ is smaller, and has more of a romantic feel to it.

Som good input so far..thanks..sounds like the CBR is a good resort...Anyone else care to chime in?

We've stayed at both CBR and POFQ and I have to say we preferred CBR over POFQ. The rooms at CBR are bright and colorful and bigger then the rooms at POFQ. We also preferred the bus transportation at CBR over POFQ. Even though POFQ is a smaller resort we experienced the worst bus transportation there and at POR. CBR is bigger but is just seemed that they had many more buses running and less wait time. We never had a problem with the transportation there. I just found CBR more relaxing with the beach areas and hammocks. I'd definately return to CBR in the future but we probably will not stay at either of the Port Orleans resorts again.

I also prefer CBR over POFQ. I know many don't (although this poll would indicate otherwise), due to the fact CBR is so large. However, that is what I like about it. CBR has a great, spread out tropical feel to it. It has full service dining available and a total of seven pools. POFQ has only one pool and yes its a small resort by Disney standards but still large enough that I feel it needs at least one quiet pool. CBR also doesn't ever share buses, POFQ will share with POR sometimes. However when that happens, POFQ is picked up and dropped off first which is nice.

They are both lovely resorts, but I prefer the lake, beach, spread out nature, bike rentals, mulitple pools and larger rooms at CBR. I also loved the fact that at CBR there are many places around the resort (the bridge that connects the main area to Jamaica and Aruba is my favorite) to see the high up fireworks of Illuminations. Naturally it can't compare to seeing it inside Epcot, but its nice to have the option.

Next to SSR, CBR is my favorite!

We've stayed at CBR and it's our favorite! You'll love it there! (Photos below...)

I much prefer CBR to PO. Hpwever, when put up against CSR, CBR wins by a much smaller margin. =)

Pick the theme you like. That is what makes the difference in ALL the WDW resorts.

I'd take CBR over POFQ any day of the week. However, I don't like the theme at POFQ - I don't like New Orleans. And I do love palm trees, lizards and the happy rooms over at CBR. I'm thinking a couple of 25 year old guys would be less wild about the cuteness of the CBR rooms than I am, though.

Thats how I feel exactly! Which brings me to add to the OP: Have you considered CSR? While I prefer CBR a bit, CSR does have an awesome main pool and slide. CBR's main pool and its slide are not as good (but the quiet pools at CBR are better imho). And CSR also has the tropical theme, via a Mexican one. I think for some guys in their 20's, CSR or CBR would either one be great.
