Haven't been keeping up much with the dis lately as things have been rather hairy in my life. I mentioned on the scrapbook board that my aunt had died in January and there were lots of family issues surrounding this.

Then several weeks ago, my mother fell on ice on her porch and broke her ankle, badly. She had to have surgery to put in screws to put the bones back together. That was difficult for her as my dad's health wasn't too good, and she did a lot for him. He's been diagnosed with Alzheimers, though medication has helped some, heart problems, among other things

Then, last Tues night, my dad fell backwards down 8 steps into a window. Luckily the plastic on the window kept him from going through it but he ended up in the hospital with bumps on bruises. Then he developed a subdural hematoma and was life flighted to a hospital in Pittsburg PA. I rushed in from Indiana as he wasn't expected to make it through the weekend. He was in an induced coma until Sunday am, then he, miraculously, started breathing on his own and recognized us again. He's now in a regular room but even if he recovers from this, the chances of this happening again are high. My mom's in a wheelchair and feels responsible for him following as he was carrying something up the stairs for her.

Anyway, I just wanted to share with my dis friends what's going on. I'm just now getting caught up with things, including work and the laundry and I wanted to let those of you that are going through your own trials, like PO3 and TCPShauna, that I'm thinking of you and hoping things look up for you but I haven't had much time to respond, plus I've been a bit preoccupied lately.

When you live 8 hours from most of your family, you sometimes don't know what's going on and you sometimes get the blame for not knowing what's going on, even when you try to keep in touch.

Sorry for the long post.

Cathy

Oh, Cathy!! I'm so sorry to hear about all of this!! Sending you lots of :grouphug: , prayers, and pixie dust! I will keep you and all of your family in my thoughts and prayers!!

Big hugs, Cathy! :grouphug:

You sure have a lot on your plate right now. I can imagine how difficult it is for you to be so far away from your parents. Prayers and pixie dust for you as you all deal with the ongoing issues of aging parents. We're dealing with that with my grandparents right now so I can relate. Know that we are always here for you!

 Cathy!

We are having a tough row here lately. I hope things turn around for everyone! It makes the crap DH and I are going through seem so miniscule. I hope mom and dad get better. It's not your fault you love so far away. That is a part of life. You have to just do what you can.

Keep us posted and give us a shout if you need anything!

OH Cathy... I am so sorry.. if you need anything, I'm on a call away... I'll PM you my numbers....

Love and hugs to all of you!!!

Hugs Cathy! I am so sorry you are going through this! I will keep you and your parents in my prayers.

Oh dear, what an ordeal for you and your family. It must have been difficult for you being that far away. My thoughts for your parents speedy recovery.

I am so sorry for everything you are going through.

I can honestly testify that God is good and faithful.

In time you will find blessings in all of this but right now it doesn't seem like it and words like mine seem hollow......

but it will get better.

Someone told me,

If we always had the sun, we would live in a drought....

If we always had rain, we would have a flood.

I guess it goes to say that there is always need for seasons in our lives, times for change, no matter how difficult prepares use for future transitions.

Sorry to ramble.

susie-
well put!

So sorry for all the family issues and illnesses / injuries you've been going through and handling, Cathy! Prayers and pixiedust being sent your way.

I know all too well how stressful it is to handle all those family problems from a distance. I'm a good 1700 miles from my mother who lives in South Florida and it's been very difficult as well.

Take care of yourself, too....Sometimes, that's really hard when you're handling all those issues.

Sending hugs to you!:grouphug:

Taking care of elderly parents when you aren't close is tough! Do you have siblings to help with this? Sounds like you have some tough decisions to make in the future. Take care of yourself, too!

Just an update and a thanks for all the kind words, thoughts and prayers. It really means a lot to be able to share things with such a wonderful group of people. I know lots of you are going through things too and I hope you know that I also wish everyone the best in their own situations :grouphug:

Last week seemed to go uphill as Dad was moved to a regular room and the CAT scan showed the hematoma was going down but by the weekend, things had changed. He wasn't talking much and sleeping more and seemed to be hallucinating, according to my sisters. The drs were also concerned about the loss of some of the brain functions as he hasn't gotten his swallowing reflex back. Anyway, my mother had the nurses get the drs in last night as she thought his condition seemed to be getting worse and the CAT scan showed the hematoma was bleeding again. They did emergency surgery last night and he came through it better than they had expected. Again, it's a wait and see game.

Susie - thank you - beautiful and appropriate words for life in general.

Thanks again, everyone!
