Cats in Disneyland

I didn't know they fed the cats. I hope they spay them as well.

You can usually see one on the tram ride over from the mickey and friends parking lot. Also, near the winnie the pooh ride there's sometimes a few.

Oh, yes! I have seen them hanging out near the tram route, too! Sometimes two will be hanging out together.

They take complete care of the cats, including vet visits. Before they brought them in, you could see little mice scurying on the ground in fenced off bushes quite often. It was a game of our family to look for the mice. Now we look for the cats as the cats seem to be doing their job and looking for mice is no longer rewarding.

The one I saw inside the park was near Hungry Bear, tortoise coloring as well. I also saw one just outside of the park in DTD right after you get off the Mickey & Friends tram but since it was outside of the park I'm not sure if it was one of the "official" Disneyland cats.

We always see them at Hungry Bear and the ROA area!

Yes...they spay, neuter and keep them up to date on their shots.

I love hearing all the stories.
I took a picture of the torti cat, but wish I would have taken one of the black and white one, he/she had a choice people watching spot.

All I can think of is how badly I would have preferred to see a cute kitty compared to the 8 foot long non-poisonous snake we saw at Animal Kingdom this past May. This was beside a store near the dinosaur ride. The store staff had a nickname for him and he appeared there about the same time every day. Sheesh, give me a cat sighting any day!

Ugh..Seriously? No thanks...I agree. I will take the cats, turtles and ducks any day.

Watching the ducks is actually one of DH's highlights of our trip...especially if there are ducklings around.

I especially enjoy it when the Canal Boat guides point out the giant, mutant ducks on the ride.

We tend to see the cats mostly around the Hungry Bear. However, the cats waaay predate their appearance in Frontierland.

I so want to see a cat at Disneyland. Last year, I asked CM's about the cats and they all told me that they hang out in the backstage. I would love to see one.

I have another question...How do you think they control any cat urine smell? I haven't ever noticed any foul smells that I can recall.

Well, keep in mind that the Disney Cats have their own "living areas" backstage, I'm sure complete with litter boxes. Also, they basically spray down most of DL overnight. No time for the smell to build up anywhere else.

In my experience, you only smell cats that are kept indoors with litter box. Cats that do their business outside do what they can to mask the odor (so that potential prey don't know they're around).

This critter was on stairs to the old Skyway building right next to Casey Jr. I believe this was taken in Sept. 2007. What a nice place for a suntan.

Way back when I first had a DL AP (1989), we always saw cats at the New Orleans Square train station. There would be 5 - 10 cats there every time.

I used to see cats near Hungry Bear during early morning CM canoe racing before the park opens. I don't know for sure, but I think they have homes near that area and just hide out when there are lots of guests in the park.

My neighbor has a cat that is indoor/outdoor and does not have a litter box in the house. You can smell cat pee in the neighborhood every now and then. Maybe they are able to mask most of it?

There is a plant that smells strongly of cat pee mostly in the spring and summer. There are three of them on my morning walk and I was finally curious enough to look online. All three places had the same type of hedge so I figured there was either something in the hedge that attracted cats or it was the hedge itself and sure enough it was the hedges.

What type of plant is it? Hopefully I can pay more attention next time I smell anything and see if it is the plant itself. The DIS is such a wealth of info!

There are actually a few of them which I found odd! Type "plants that smell like cat pee" in google and a bunch come up lol. Weird?!
