According to the Catholic Church Jesus also doesn't approve of remarriage after a divorce. Is it hypocritical, then, for Catholics to support laws which allow a second civil marriage without a Catholic annulment of the first marriage? Isn't it then also hypocritical for a Catholic to vote for McCain?

The Catholic Church doesn't recognize civil divorce. A divorced Catholic remarrying civilly is actually committing adultery, since in the eyes of the Catholic Church a civilly divorced person is still married to their first spouse.

So yes, if John McCain is Catholic, then he is committing adultery in the eyes of the Catholic Church, unless he got his first marriage annulled.

If he's not Catholic, then we really don't care. ;)

FWIW, with regard to that website, I don't see anywhere that it is sponsored, sanctioned or approved by the Catholc Church.

No need to get hung up on the abortion issue. There are No "greater sins"...just a sin. Abortion, Murder, Suicide, Adultery, Pre-Marital Sex are all JUDGED THE SAME according to the bible and the Catholic faith.

I was raised a Roman Catholic, I am no longer practicing (not that the church wants me...I'm divorced from a abuser, and therefore not worthy of the church). However, the rest of my practicing Roman Catholic family is voting for Obama.

Abortion isn't the only issue.
Actually the Church has no problem with divorced people since it doesn't recognize civil divorce.

Along the same lines, as a Catholic, how can you support a party that wages questionable wars that kill thousands of people, neglects the environment (a big issue with the Vatican these days), and turns its back on the poor?

A questionable war is your opinion, Neglecting the enviornment and turning its back on the poor? Where? Just because global warming isn't the issue we love the most, doesn't mean we neglect the enviornment.

John McCain was raised Episcopalian. He has attended a Baptist church for many years. So.....what does his divorce have to do with the Catholic church?

Nothing.

But it gives someone something to latch on to as yet another reason why no one should vote for McCain/Palin, even if it has no bearing on his personal belief system.

What don't you understand? That a woman can be against abortion, know that she can never have one herself, yet support it being legal for other women to make the choice for themselves?

Catholic for McCain as are most of the Catholics that I know.

The OP state they were anti-abortion, personally...and pro-choice since the believe a woman should be able to choose. You are either believe abortion is okay....or you don't. If you wouldn't opt for an abortion personally but, think it's okay for someone else....you are either Pro-Choice or Pro-Abortion.

The OP can classify herself anyway she likes. That is not for you to decide. It's quite clear she is personally pro-life and politically pro-choice.

That's oxymoronic. If it makes her feel better....she can classify herself however she likes....it's still a free country.

SEveral Catholic friends (I'm non-religious) who are voting BO.

Most of my extended family is Catholic, and they are Obama supporters.

They are worried about the poor and downtrodden, issues the Dems are much better with.

I'm sorry that you feel the Church wouldn't want you. I know it varies regionally, and even from parish to parish, but I find that the Church in general has become more understanding about divorce, especially in cases of abuse. I know Catholicism isn't for everyone, but it breaks my heart when people feel driven away because they don't feel loved or accepted in the Church. I am one Catholic who would welcome you with open arms, and I know there are many more who would do the same.
There has been war since the beginning of time.....and there will always be war. If you only pick and choose what part of the bible you agree with...so be it....it's your right.

I think it odd that the ones that don't want the government to legislate morality.....are the same ones that feel that it's okay to legislate immorality.:confused3
Yes there has been war since the beginning of time, just like there's been adultery, murder, theft, etc. Does that mean you support it? And who is legislating immorality? Is anyone being required by the law to sin?

A picture from the convention of someone who has turned her back on the environment, and there were plenty more just like her. It's not that I think more drilling is absolutely out of the question. It's the flippant mob mentality that bothers me. Like we don't need to stop and think about possible consequences, like people who raise questions about the prudence of doing this are nut-jobs.

12 years of Catholic education, former altar boy, pro-choice, pro-gay rights and PROBAMA

HERE TOO!!!

And for the record, the Catholic Church is not only pro-life, but anti-death penalty. Folks need to be consistent- either only God gets to choose when to end a life, or not. :confused3

Well, then call me pro-choice. I would never have an abortion, personally. I was raised Catholic and would not consider it. In fact, I declined some prenatal testing with DS because it wouldn't make a difference if he was Downs Syndrome or not.

HOWEVER- I was taught that "Judge not, lest ye be judged." I try to live by that. What a woman chooses is between her and God, and not me. If it is a sin, then God will take care of it. Not my place to judge, any more than it is my place to judge those who commit adultery...

I edited my above post to remove any hint of sarcasm. I promise I'll try to remain civil.
