Catholic voter for Barack Obama, right here. :thumbsup2

Most of my family is too.

I took a quick vote at that website and noticed it seemed to have anti-gay rights issues and anti-abortion rights issues front and center. Not the kind of Catholics my family members are.

I dont know how a practicing Catholic can vote for a ticket that is pro late term abortion. The only anti gay (it didnt appear radical...anti gay, just stated a stand on the issue)image I got from the video was that the church does not endorse same sex marriage...again, that is the truth.

I'm fairly sure they are pro-community organizer.

Because that's not the only issue that is on the table. I have a friend who is a devout Catholic and strongly anti-abortion, yet he's a Democrat and Obama supporter. From his (and my) point of view there are plenty of issues that Democrats support and Republicans ignore that compel us to vote Democrat.

Btw, most Democrats, I believe, are pro-choice, not necessarily pro-abortion. I'm personally against abortion, but am also against telling another woman what to do with her body. If someone thinks that shoud bar me from being a practicing Catholic, then they can take it up with my priest.

I dont know....I am just confused how a person that claims to be Catholic can wrap their brain around voting for a candidate that supports laws for late term abortions.
The late term abortion stand was the deal breaker fo me with Obama. I would not want this country to go back to the back alley abortion clinics but late term abortion is horrendous and I believe a sin. Most other issues are just that issues of our society. as i said this was the deal breaker for me.
I would not presume to tell you that you are not Catholic. I would however, be interested in hearing what your priest has to say about your voting stance.
I agree with you that alot of dems are pro-choice and not pro abortion. I think that is probably a common feeling. However, I think we are talking a much different feeling when late term abortions are discussed.

Obama does not love late term abortions and is not out advocating that people get them.

On most social issues the democrats are the party of peace, love and understanding (thanks Elvis Costello), and are much more Christian than the republican platform.

That about sums it up! I read an op-ed piece written by a nun who explained why she was voting for Obama recently. Add my Catholic vote for him.

Non practicing catholic voting for Obama here.

12 years of Catholic education, former altar boy, pro-choice, pro-gay rights and PROBAMA

Obama has no problem with the state restricting late term abortions (specifically "pba"s) so far as I can tell. His problem with a ban on D&X abortions is that they do not include an exception for a woman's health even though numerous medical organizations insist that in some cases a D&X abortion may be the best medical choice for a woman.

One reason for some D&X abortions is anencephaly--when the fetus's brain is growing outside of its skull. The fetus has no chance of surviving, though technically it is alive and hence as far as I understand would covered by the "partial birth abortion" ban. If it is late in pregnancy when this is found, the fetus's head can be very enlarged making a ******l delivery dangerous. A C-section is major surgery for a woman, and again it seems like an unnecessary risk given that the fetus cannot possibly live. Since the fetus cannot possibly live anyway, I cannot see why any one would prefer a woman take the health risks of major surgery or actually go through labor and delivery. I would think for some women it would be emotionally much less traumatic to have an intact D&X. And I don't think the govt has any place telling women who are dealing with the death of a wanted baby what kinds of health care they are allowed to receive in the process of ending their pregnancy. My guess is that is Obama's position as well.

Well sure , but your just talking sense here. The website the OP references has no interest in THAT.

Amen.

Also, the Catholic Church does not endorse candidates or tell people how to vote. So said my priest last Sunday. These websites are misleading.

I LOVE this statement. It is (on a different scale but you'll get the idea) the same as a Hindu president telling me I can't have a burger or a Jewish president banning my lobster.

I too am no fan of abortion. But I'm not about to dictate my personal opinion on others.

I didn't look at the website. But I'm going to take a guess...

The website isn't actually set up by the Catholic Church and covers controversial stuff like abortion, gay rights, etc. The OP wanted everyone to think it was a Catholic thing and get all up in arms about how the Catholics are horrid and used this non-Catholic thing to do it.

Am I wrong? If I am, I'll be glad.

Even if the church did tell us who to vote for, which it doesn't, I'd still go my own way. This is America and we get to do that.

I'm not voting for Obama because I think he's horrid. I do support the right of everyone to marry whomever they please even if they happen to be gay because this is America and everyone should be treated equally (which most of the other people for gay marraige don't believe, but whatever.) I do not support abortion for all the reasons everyone has heard before.

Sometimes I agree with the church and other times I don't. Can't always side with the church on everything.

And that is how I wrap my brain around that.

I'm not Catholic but I also would never stand for my church, minister or anyone telling me who to vote for.
Thankfully, our vote is just that--OUR own vote.
