Catholic voter for Barack Obama, right here.![]()
I dont know how a practicing Catholic can vote for a ticket that is pro late term abortion.
I dont know how a practicing Catholic can vote for a ticket that is pro late term abortion. The only anti gay (it didnt appear radical...anti gay, just stated a stand on the issue)image I got from the video was that the church does not endorse same sex marriage...again, that is the truth.
I dont know....I am just confused how a person that claims to be Catholic can wrap their brain around voting for a candidate that supports laws for later term abortions.
The late term abortion stand was the deal breaker for me with Obama.
On most social issues the democrats are the party of peace, love and understanding (thanks Elvis Costello), and are much more Christian than the republican platform.

Obama has no problem with the state restricting late term abortions (specifically "pba"s) so far as I can tell. His problem with a ban on D&X abortions is that they do not include an exception for a woman's health even though numerous medical organizations insist that in some cases a D&X abortion may be the best medical choice for a woman.
One reason for some D&X abortions is anencephaly--when the fetus's brain is growing outside of its skull. The fetus has no chance of surviving, though technically it is alive and hence as far as I understand would covered by the "partial birth abortion" ban. If it is late in pregnancy when this is found, the fetus's head can be very enlarged making a ******l delivery dangerous. A C-section is major surgery for a woman, and again it seems like an unnecessary risk given that the fetus cannot possibly live. Since the fetus cannot possibly live anyway, I cannot see why any one would prefer a woman take the health risks of major surgery or actually go through labor and delivery. I would think for some women it would be emotionally much less traumatic to have an intact D&X. And I don't think the govt has any place telling women who are dealing with the death of a wanted baby what kinds of health care they are allowed to receive in the process of ending their pregnancy. My guess is that is Obama's position as well.
Because that's not the only issue that is on the table. I have a friend who is a devout Catholic and strongly anti-abortion, yet he's a Democrat and Obama supporter. From his (and my) point of view there are plenty of issues that Democrats support and Republicans ignore that compel us to vote Democrat.
Btw, most Democrats, I believe, are pro-choice, not necessarily pro-abortion. I'm personally against abortion, but am also against telling another woman what to do with her body. If someone thinks that shoud bar me from being a practicing Catholic, then they can take it up with my priest.

Amen.
Also, the Catholic Church does not endorse candidates or tell people how to vote. So said my priest last Sunday. These websites are misleading.
