I'm protective of my kids. I don't like to have detailed open profiles for this reason. We don't let them on the internet or fb. I don't like to give out too many details about them (though sometimes I forget when I'm just discussing things) because it is unsafe to tell internet strangers who you are, where you live, who your kids are.

I haven't taken the opportunity to disclose this yet, but this seems like a good time to do so. I'm actually a unbelievably attractive multi-millionaire and every one of my posts are typed by my maid and/or butler. I used to let the chef do it but his French to English translation was a bit weak so he's only allowed to cook for me now. My maid is typing this message from my summer estate as instructed.

Catfishing I think of the romantic aspect, or someone who gives a fake story to get something.

Troll I think of someone who deliberately stirs the pot.

The there is the whole fake life on the internet people. I think they do it because they are not happy with themselves and create the life they would like to have.

Some are good, like good authors and do research before writing their stories, some can't quite get the details straight.

I get not disclosing some things. There are some details about my family I don't divulge because of some of the preconceived notions and attitudes that some of the posters have expressed on this board.

It's all fun and games until someone has a "tragedy" and starts a GoFundMe.

Catfished, no, trolled, most likely. I have a pretty good bs meter so I can usually pick up on something not adding up. I generally ignore it unless I see someone getting sucked into a situation with someone I suspect isn't who they portray themselves to be. There are tons on parenting boards. One guy was really good, whole life with wife and two daughters but he couldn't answer simple questions like who was their favorite character, what was their favorite color, basic stuff a dad would know. He finally got caught out when he did catfish someone on that board, claiming to have split with the wife, etc. Turned out to be a really young guy. It was odd to say the least.

That said, I've actually met up with quite a few online friends (a few from the Dis) who have become pretty good real life friends.
