Category 1 and 2 - waitlist? NEW INFORMATION!!!

The first cruise we were on, we went to Disney World first, the Land/Sea package. We had a message on the machine in our room at the Polynesian to change the room number on our baggage, they were offering us a complimentary upgrade to the Cat 2......it was free....and this was the night before we got on the ship, May 2002, 3 day Wonder.
The second time was just this last September, we booked a Cat 3 one bedroom on the 4 night Wonder. It was a good month before the cruise that DCL called us and asked if we wanted "our" room again, the Cat 2. Of course, the answer was YES!!! Again, complimentary.
We could only book a Cat 4 for the 10-day Christmas 2004 cruise, all suites are booked, but I did wait-list us this time....we are really spoiled now. I'm not holding my breath, though...and any room is fine with me, as long as I'm on that ship!

I've been in cat1 for 7 day cruise and did not have land booked. I see you wait-listed for 10 day cruise. I did the same and about 3 weeks ago inventory control called and I got cat1 on the 10 day! So, good luck!

WOW Land and Sea Guy, you must be the luckiest guy on the planet! I am so jealous!! Enjoy it, that will be amazing!

You will have to join our thread on the cruise meets board. But fair warning for you, we have planned a wine party one of the sea days and they may beg you to use your suite for the party. Glad you got the cabin you wanted. Come join the thread.

Hey, Land and Sea Guy...since you've been in the Cat 1, how 'bout if you just call DCL and tell them that you want someone (me) who's never been in the 1 have it?? Only kidding!
I can't see anyone giving up their suite for this cruise. The only way to get an upgrade now is if someone that has a suite cancels.
Like I said, I'm just glad to be going at all....but the Cat 3 would give us a little more room, and of course, I'd love to have "my" 2 again!
L & S Guy.....didn't I read that you had booked your cruise a long time ago, before it even was a 10-day? I think that makes a big difference. The ones who booked the earliest are more likely to get an upgrade, and we just recently booked. What Cat were you originally booked for?
Maybe if Disney does decide to build a new ship, they'll realize how popular the suites are, and add more of them.
Jilljill is right....now we know where the wine party is going to be! ::yes::

I was not booked an any cat. for the 10 day. I faxed inventory control and requested cat1. I was booked in cat1 for the week before but canceled it when this call came in. Think I might get an upgrade.LOL

Just think, you made someone very happy on the other cruise when you cancelled your Cat. 1.
IF you get an upgrade please let us know which deck you will be taking over :hyper:

What are your opinions on cat 3?

We absolutely loved it, and got excellent service from the concierge team :)

In the old days, the Captains quarters would have been the nicest, but I think you have him beat, Land & Sea Guy!!!

I guess I don't understand about faxing inventory control....what is this and how did you know about it? Why does that make it easier than just booking and/or wait-listing? It obviously worked really, really well for you! Just curious. Does that mean that you faxed them and requested a Cat 1 for any cruise, or a Christmas cruise in particular? Did you do this way far in advance? Boy, I'm really being nosy, aren't I? Sorry....I just hadn't heard of this route before.

And yes, you must have made a few people happy by cancelling the first one....that's how we got our first Cat 2...someone in the Roy cancelled, the group that was booked in our 2 got moved up to the Roy, and .....TA DA...we got the 2!

Inventory control is a avenue for future cruisers to reserve a selected room on the ship prior to availble booking. For example, If you wanted to book cat1 2006 christmas and you called DLC, they would most likely tell you that date it not avalible for booking yet. Maybe they don't have pricing yet? Who knows? But, you can fax a request to inventory control requesting it. Just ask them for the fax number. Inventory control will only take a fax request and you can't call them. But, do it early because it's on a first come first served basis. Once the date opens up for the requested cruise, they go down the list offering it to the first request received for that date. I just got lucky, I happened to request for the now 10 day cruise. If you look at my fax request, its for the 7 day christmas cruise 2004. I had no idea then.

Wow...that's really great!! Wish I'd known about that a long time ago. How cool, too, that they just happened to turn the Christmas cruise you wanted into a 10-day! You ARE the luckiest!!!
Now, about that wine party???

I have to wait 2 years total to get the Walt Disney Suite. I booked this last year as soon as i got home from my cruise last Oct. I called and the agent said I had to fax a request over because all the dates were booked. So when you fax a request, just keep a date in mind. What I did was request Oct 23, 2004. I had to wait about 2 months and they called me. They told me 1st come 1st serve. I forget the fax# but just call Disney Cruise Line and ask them.

GOOD LUCK,
Faith:wave2:

My family and I decided in the beginning of December '03 to take a 7 night Eastern cruise. We knew we wanted one of the Royal Suites. We gave the travel agent two dates in 2004 and the Disney agent told her that ALL the suites were booked through December of 2004. We were told we could be waitlisted. So, we were waitlisted for a Royal Suite, a 2-Bedroom Suite, or 2 one-bedroom suites. But, we went ahead and booked 2 category 4 rooms, with the understanding if any of our waitlists came up, we'd be called right away. On January 12, 2004, our travel agent called saying that a 2-Bedroom Suite had just opened up, and we jumped at it. It seems like if you get waitlisted and wait until about 60 days out, you just might get what you want.

We have cruised 3 times on DCL, 2 times in cat1 and a cat4. The suites are amazing and it makes it hard to go to a smaller room. With the suite you do spend more time in the room because it is so fantastic. I agree that the concierge service is inconsistent and not what it could be. The first cruise the service was excellent, but not too many extras. The most recent cruise the service was poor. they could take a few lessons from the concierge team at AKL. With 7 in our party it was well worth the extra price. The full breakfast was a plus, and they even brought continental breakfast the last morning to enjoy the last few hours in the suite. If you can splurge-go ahead. We are booked for a cat 2 on June 26--couldn't get cat 1 even 2 years ahead. I hope the third ship will have more suites!!! Beth

BethA - and a big plus for your fellow DIScruisers is that you were able to make brunch reservations for all of us and we certainly appreciated your offer and courtesy!!!

Best wishes and happy memories!
