I remember reading about these little things a couple of years ago and I figured the trend was gone now. But suddenly I have a nephew that likes them and has just started a collection (is that how it works?).

Any suggestions on where I might find the best prices on them? Is there anything I need to know about "making it work?" Does he need some kind of online virtual currency to go with the actual pet?

I really know nothing about these things. :)

Thanks!

You can find them in a lot of different places, you just want to make sure the plastic envelope with the code in it is attached--you can also get clothing, bookmarks, etc with codes.

All he needs to do is enter the code on the webpage and adopt the webkinz--and that is pretty user friendly. Any virtual money he needs within the world, he earns himself by playing games.

The chat function on the page is very limited--kids can only chat with people they are friends with, and can only choose out of a limited number of phrases for chatting.

Actually, there's a chat plus you can sign up for, which allows you to type your phrases (there are some things not allowed). And you can chat with anyone on regular chat, not just friends.

We don't have any in our area, but a store called Ollies currently has some older webkinz for $4 or $5.

Target has the reindeer in the stocking stuffer area for $5.

Justice has a nice selection, and usually has 40% off entire store, or a coupon for 40% off your purchase. They often have a webkinz clearance rack also.

There's a great site for info - webkinz insider.

I don't know if you have AC Moore where you are, but they also sell them, and you could use the coupons they send out in the paper to get one 40-50% off. They sell them at Hallmark, Target, Cracker Barrel, and 5 Below(Little Kinz). The basic ones are usually $12-15, Little Kinz are $5, and Signature Pets(more special perks) are $17 - 30, depending on the size. Hallmark sometimes has some on clearance - ours had Halloween dogs, and some Hamsters and Zums(other parts of Webkinz World) recently, as well as a few signature pets.

In my area you can find a webkinz pet just about anywhere. Walgreens, Hallmark, Justice, CVS, Walmart, Target, etc..

Just a suggestion is for his first pet I would adopt one of the pets that also have an adventure park tag on them. You can also do a search on the internet of a list of webkinz adventure park pets. They are regular pets and cost the same, they just have a few extra special perks. If you go to www.webkinz.com and click on the webkinz news tab you can find out about the pets and what's going on, as well as webkinzinsider.com is also a forum that is up to date on all things webkinz.

As far as online currency when he adopts his first pet he will be given a small amount, and he earns the rest by playing games, doing daily challenges, jobs, quizzes, etc... It really is a nice site and I've enjoyed it myself and w/ DD for several years.

Now if you like there's all sorts of way to go into debt with webkinz. You can buy virtual pets and other items at the estore, where you buy points with real dollars. A free membership is included with purchase of the pet, but you can upgrade to a deluxe membership where you get estore points every month, a deluxe gift every month and you can also play some special games not available to non deluxe members, along with a few other extras. Personally I am happy with what's included and won't pay the extra but some webkinz fans really enjoy it, so that's something else to look into after he's been playing for awhile.

Justice...when they have their 40% off is usually the best deal.

Target has the reindeer webkinz for about 5 bucks in the Christmas section. It is also the webkinz of the month for Dec so if you register it then you get special prizes and dailies with it.

Thanks, all!

Honestly, I'm just thrilled to have an idea of something to get him. :rotfl: I think kids are harder to shop for when you don't have any. I'm apparently not cool enough to keep up with what's "in." :confused3
