We have an 8 yr old male indoor/outdoor cat who is a pretty tough kitty. Sometimes he stays out all night, sometimes a few nights. He is bigger than most other cats he encounters and has never shown injury from or gotten into a fight with any other animal (cat, dog, racoon, fox, skunk). However, he has been gone since last Thursday, 7/14. This in very long and unusual for him.

I have done everything recommeded like posting signs, called police, animal control, vets, neighbors. I even called area pet sitters to keep an eye out while they are dog walking. I walk the quiet streets at night and call him and I leave his favorite window open so I'll hear him if he shows up.

My question is, I heard once of a cat being gone an entire month and then showing up just fine. How long does your outdoor cat stay out????? Anyone else have a cat show up after a long outdoor stint? Unfortunately since it's so hot out (90's here daily since Thursday), I think if he could get home to the nice A/C he would.

Thanks in advance for kind responses.

We have experienced this twice with our male cat, both times in the spring. I guess he doesnt get out enough over the cold cold winter so come spring he wanders. The first time he was gone for 12 days and i thought for sure he was dead, but came back looking a little thin and dirty but good considering. And this spring he was gone for 17 days and i thought the coyotes or a car had to have got him but once again he reappeared.

The vet said just because hes fixed doesnt mean he wont find some fun :rotfl:

Mine mosied up after bein' gone for almost 2 weeks 'n acted like nothin' was wrong.

Yours may have found a vacation spot in someone else's home, he'll be back as soon as they let him out.

We have had male cats that did this. For that reason, we now only get female cats. The male cats would disappear for weeks, and my wife and kids would be beside themselves with worry, then the cat would meander back in.

No more male cats for us.

Our female cat goes on "benders" Check your PMs for some suggestions.:)

I know exactly where your cats are. LOL LOL
Your cats are very very busy pooping in my vegetable garden, spraying all over my front and back doors and fighting with each other at 2 a.m. right under my bedroom window. :p

p.s. yes OP, as a child I remember a cat of ours escaping the house and being gone for almost a month!

And tearing into our garbage and strewing it all over the porch. We have a terrible time with outdoor cats in our neighborhood. :rolleyes1

Anyway, I am sure he is fine and will be home soon! Give him an extra squeeze.
