OK, so it's kind of an adventure for me whenever I eat out due to food allergies; the worst of which is onions (all types and forms). My friend and I decided to have dinner at Kouzzina during a Girls Week in Disney and being my best friend she knows that when we go out for dinner it is never an easy ordering process.
We get there and are seated right away. The atmosphere was wonderful and the place was beautiful inside, the tables were a little close (we felt like we were a table of 6 instead of a table of 2) but at least our table neighbors were nice.
When the waitress appears I let my friend order first and then I explain to the waitress that I have a severe allergy to onions. She says that she will ask one of the Chefs to come out to the table to discuss my options. I'm kind of used to this, and give Kudos to Disney because they are great about sending a cook to the table to help me pick something or to have them customize one of the existing dishes for me.
So I order the appetizer: Goat Cheese Sto Fourno Baked Goat Cheese, Pequillo Peppers, Kalamata Olives, Artichoke Hearts, and Greek Olive Oil @ $8.49 -- my friend and I shared and it was delicious, the only complaint is that it only came with one piece of toasted bread. The amount of the cheese really needed at least 4 pieces of bread.
For dinner I ordered: Oak-fired Pork Tenderloin with Feta Gremolata, Zucchini Corn Pie, and Succotash @ $27.99 -- I couldn't have the Succotash because it had onion in it so I substituted the Sautéed Brussels Sprouts with a Brown Butter Vinaigrette, Caper, and Cheese. My friend ordered: Fishermans Stew Scallops, seasonal Fish, Shellfish, Fennel, Grilled Bread, and Ouzo Butter @ $25.99.
Let's start with the Fisherman's Stew, when the first ingredient is Scallops you should expect more than one Scallop in the bowl. There were 3 Shrimp and the rest was some unknown fish. Since it had onion in it, I couldn't taste it but she said it was very good, just lacking in seafood.
Next, my Pork Tenderloin. When it came out it looked absolutely beautiful; it was steaming hot and smelled delicious. It was cut in half and as I cut into the Pork which had the Feta Gremolata on each of the cut ends I noticed that there wasn't a bit of juice coming from the Pork. The Feta Gremolata was so salty and over-powering that it literally just sucked all of the moisture out of the piece of meat. All I tasted was salt for the rest of the Pork. The Zucchini Corn Pie would have been delicious except for the fact that they sprinkle the top with Feta cheese and put it under the broiler; so the wonderful sweet flavor of the Zucchini and Corn is now over-powered by the strong salt flavor of the Feta. The Brussels Sprouts came in a separate dish and the first thing I noticed was that they were not sauteed, there were no capers and not one bit of cheese.
When the waitress finally came back to the table (25 minutes later) at which point I had only eaten a few bites of my Pork and there was more than half of my Pork Tenderloin and most of my Brussels Sprouts still sitting on the plates, she asked how everything was and I said "Quite honestly, not that good". She said she was very sorry and that she would have the chef come back out to the table. I kind of felt bad for the chef when she came back out to the table and asked me how my dinner was tonight. I told her everything about the Feta over-powering everything else on the plate and that all I tasted was salt. I asked where the capers and cheese were on the Brussels Sprouts and she said that they must have forgotten to put them on in the kitchen. She apologized profusely and then offered to give me (only me) a free dessert.
Well you know since my meal alone was almost $30.00, I was a bit upset that I was only offered a $6.00 dessert. I turned it down nicely and said that frankly I wouldn't really be able to enjoy it because I still had the overwhelming taste of salt in my mouth.
As far as a rating, I think I would give the restaurant a 5 out of 10. The food just didn't live up to the hype.
