Am I crazy to do this?
I booked our cruise with DVC points and I was 4 points shy for a catagory 6. We went with the cat 7 and got cabin 7126. (Seems like a nice cabin but I am starting to think I do not want the closed in veranda). I was thinking about paying for an upgrade to cat 6 when we get to the terminal. As of today there are a few 6's available. The one that I am most interested in is 5650 on deck 5.
Am I crazy to pay extra to move 2 decks lower just for a different kind of veranda?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ellen
ps.. we are sailing on the Western Magic Cruise on 10/26/02

No, I don't think you're crazy, but then again, 5650 is my favorite stateroom!
As an alternative, you could see if any of the "secret verandah" staterooms are available. Those are the cat. 7's with the slightly obstructed plexiglass verandahs (I have photos on my website). They are not as far aft as 5650, but at least it wouldn't cost you any extra points.

I knew that number sounded familiar! If you're going to go for it (& I can't advise either way) just make sure it's worth it to go from the navigators verandah to the metal one. Some people really like plexiglass instead of solid metal.

That's true, it's got the metal verandah...I was guessing you already knew that, but if not, I have lots of photos of that stateroom on my website so you will know exactly what you are getting. The verandah is a little larger than the standard ones, so I managed to fit a lounger chair out there on our 7-day.

Barb and Gillian,
Thanks for the replies...
We sailed on the Wonder a few years ago and had a "plexiglass" cat 6 and that was fine. I am ok with the idea of the solid metal veranda especially if it is a little larger.

My main reason for considering this change is for my husband. He plans on spending a lot of time on the veranda (we are going with a group and he is the only guy, plus he hates crowds).
I just keep thinking that he will not enjoy the navigators veranda as much as a regular (metal or plexiglass) one.

Also, does anyone have an opinon on the deck change. Is there any real differences. On deck 7, I like being only a few doors away from the aft deck area (not sure what that little area is called). On deck 5, I like the fact that the kids clubs are there and our friends are in 2 of the secret porthole cabins.

I am really torn!!!!!
Any opinions would be appreciated.

We are in a Cat. 6 room 5130 deck five. We chose that over a deck six room that was right near the elevators. Having stayed on Deck 7 in at Cat 5 and deck six in a cat 6 and finding no difference I figured deck five would be no different than deck 6. I like the idea of so few cabins on this deck and the veranda being closer to the water. I'd say go for deck five!

Hi Ellen,
We also booked our Western Cruise with DVC points. We opted for one of the newly converted category 7 cabins. There are 4 cabins that were converted from category 5 and 6 into category 7 because the verandahs have partially obstructed views. We booked cabin 6634 which was a category 6 (now a category 7) for the price of a category 7. Take a look at Dave's Website Photo of Obstructed View Verandah's.

I know your sailing soon so availability may be an issue. Doesn't hurt to try though.

Good luck and I'm sure wherever you end up you will have a great time.

Mary
