We are going on our 4th sailing Nov. 20 Western. We always book a cat. 6 for myself, DW and DDs 14 and 12. This time I booked a cat. 6 and a cat. 11. (The price was within 75.00.) Now our neighbors booked but they were told all the 4 person rooms were booked. There are 8 of them. So they booked a cat. 11 and 6 and we add 1 child to each of our rooms. The CM told me that they can only book 3 due to "overbooking and lifeboat restriction" which makes sence.........My question is...........even though they only book three in a room does it have the queen bed the couch and the pull down???

:sunny: Not all Cat 6 sleep 4. The one we will be in on Sunday only sleeps 3. There is no pull down. Hope this helps.

No, not all category 6 rooms sleep 4, and if they are the ones that sleep 3, they do not have bedding for 4. The pull down bed isn't in those cabins. Actually a majority of the category 6 rooms only sleep 3, with the majority of the category 5's sleeping 4. It could be entirely possible that your friends kids might have no place to sleep in the rooms their parents booked, and might end up either on the floor, or in your rooms.

No, not all cat 6 rooms have the pull down bed. The ones on deck 5 only sleep 3, while most if not all on deck 6 sleep 4.

Looks like our friends are in 5648 and 6135 a cat. 5 and 11. I was under the impression while talking to the CM while booking that these room slept 4, but due to capasity regulations for lifeboats they had to "book" seperate but could stay onywhere once on board????

This is an impossibility. Something about meritime law, but DCL can not/does not book more people in a room than there are beds. This includes infants (and the pack-n-play doesn't count as a bed). So even if a family of four includes an infant that will sleep in a pack-n-play, they must still researve a cabin that sleeps 4.

That is absolutely correct!!!! EVERY PERSON, including infants will be accounted for, boarding the ship!!! It is not like a hotel where you can get away with squeezing a few more persons in the room. The DCL staff, esp stateroom host, is trained to know there should be correct amount of people in the staterooms and they will see to that.
On my last cruise, My parents came with us on the cruise and we had 2 staterooms and my kids switched back and forth to sleep, which is allowable, as long it doens't exceed the # of people allowed in the stateroom and my stateroom host thought, i had 3 children in the room plus me and my DH , accomodating only for 4, and questioned us and even had the higher up staff questioned us...It was just an honest mistake on their part, (for some reason, the stateroom host thought we had the 3rd child, but in reality, it was one of my kids friend they met at the clubs that step into our stateroom for brief minutes ) but just to show you, they are on top of things and are very strict about it...

Hmmmmmmmmmm.......I wonder why the CM that took their reservation on Sunday told us that it wouldn't be a problem? I called and was told each staterooms booked slept 4 and that the "max number" of staterooms with 4 available in those cats. were taken. Once the max # cats. with 4 cruisers has been met they MUST only book 3 per room in that cat.......thus the reason for the latest verandah booked to be a cat 5 and not on the same floor to accomodate "4 people just in case one of the younger children miss mom or dad or have a bad dream at night....if you know what I mean?"

Hmm..not sure what you mean...I am lil confused!!
Also, keep in mind that just because staterooms are avail. for 4 or 3 doesn't mean there is availibilty to cruise for the family of 3 or 4 because they take into consideration on # of kids in certain age category be allowed on the ship too..for the Kid's Club purposes...They do not want to overcrowds the Clubs. That is another reason why they ask for specific birthdate of kids going on the ship....

Ya, but wether the kids spend the night in our cabin or their parents cabin that won't effect how many total will be "in the kids clubs".

True...

All i know is this...from being on the Disney Cruise 3 times already...and spoke with numerous DCL staff, the stateroom cannot not exceed the # amount of people per room,,,

Now, if the small child slept into the parents room causing exceeding amount of people, would they make a big deal?? Probablry not...depending on the stateroom host... He could make a big deal or not...

As long as there are X amount of people assigned on the reservation per stateroom, you are OK....Children do switch when there are multiple stateroom involved...But i do know that they do not want to see guests ending up sleeping on floors...

Do i make myself clear or cause more confusion? LOL!!!!!

Maybe I read the question wrong, but it seems like the family you're traveling with has 8 people in their party. DCL has booked two rooms 3 and 3 and the other two children are split between your rooms. As I stated, it is entirely possible that they are booked into rooms that only hold 3 people and not 4. It does seem like you might have a 4 person room, and then one of the children who is booked in one of your rooms can sleep in that room. ONLY though if that cabin does indeed hold 4 people. I find it hard to believe that if there were cabins left that can hold 4 people in each why DCL wouldn't just book 4 people in that room. I just did a quick search using Orbitz and tried to book a family of 4 for the cruise, and there were no rooms left that would hold 4 people. I'd definately double check with DCL again, and maybe run to the bookstore and look at the DCL Passporter book. It does list which rooms hold how many people, and you'd get a separate sourse confirming what DCL is telling you.

Edited to add: Just call DCL blindly, and not even mentioning the above situation. Ask them how many people these two staterooms each hold. This way, aside from the situation, you'll get an answer.

Update!!! I just called DCL and both 5648 and 6135 each only have a capacity of 3 people. That means that neither of the rooms will have the pull down bed from the ceiling and only have the queen bed and silgle convertible sofa. If the kids want to sleep on the floor in those rooms, I don't think it would be a problem, but there is no additional bedding for additional people in those rooms. The kids probably will end up in your rooms at night.

Lori,
Did they say that 4 people can be in those rooms?? This does not sounds right at all!! If the stateroom accomodate 3, they can only book ressies for 3!!!! Between those 2 rooms, it should only be ressies for 6, not 8!!!!

Her friends do have ressies for 6 and the OP has 2 of the children booked into her rooms. I think the OP was told these rooms held 4 people, but could only book 3 due to some sort of regulations. That was incorrect information, since DCL told me independently that these rooms only have a capacity of 3. I actually asked if each of these rooms held 4 people, and was told that both of them only had a capacity of 3.

Ok, I am on the phone talking to DCL right now and each room is specifically for X amount of people in the room....You MAY get into trouble if the stateroom exceed the amount of people, even though another child is on a another ressie in another room....
It is not written in stone, what happens if the 4th person sleep on the room for 3, which may result that person sleeping on the floor, since DCL does not do bed check.....but it is at the discretion of the stateroom host if she/he feels that there is a safety hazard....

in comparision to this....If the speed limit is 60, you could go 70 and may get away with it or get nabbed....

If there is indeed a problem, simply resolved it that the 4th person has to sleep in the original room that they have the ressie on....

This is a good learning education for me and the DCL rep was very very helpful!!!

now you just have to deal with the Dining situation, making sure the family is eating together at meal times....
