cat 12 guar rooms?????

Hey everyone! Need some help? We have a short cruise booked for October w/2days at Disney,but are talking about rebooking the 7 day cruise instead. Ecspecially after hearing rumors that the Magic may be headed to California next year!! I added up what we would spend and it would actually be cheaper to go on the 7 day for us! I checked on the cheapest route and it is a Cat 12 Guarantee room?? Are they that bad if we did get Cat 12? The lady from Disney said we would have a great chance of being upgraded to an upper deck. There is such a big price difference between Cat 12 and 11 for some reason. I usually like to have a window,but am willing to give it up to be able to go on the 7 day cruise.

The prices all seem so high lately for Disney. It seems like they are charging almost the same for the 3rd guest as the first two?

I really don't think we will be in our room all that much anyway.

Has anyone stayed in Cat 12????

I figured if we did get 12 then we could always pay for an upgrade when we get to port. I would really like to end up on the upper decks.

I would be giving up a secret port hole room on the Oct 28th cruise if we booked the 7 day Oct 16th Eastern....

On our first DCL cruise which was on the Wonder, we booked at 12 room. In fact, I wanted to make it a guarantee hoping that we might get upgraded, but they could only do room assignment. We were in 2511. At the time, most sailings seemed to be cheaper for cat 11 than a cat 12 but for some reason, on our sailing, which ended up being a sold out spring break sailing, it would have been a lot more to book an 11 instead of a 12.

Anyway, we had a great time. We were joking that we were going to be in steerage. But we had a fabulous cabin stewardess who treated us great! And we didn't find being on deck 2 a problem. It may not have been as convenient for some things, but it was more convenient for things like dining rooms, Beat Street (Route 66) and getting on/off the ship at ports. We recently stayed in a cat 11 on deck 7 on the Magic. The interior of the cabin was exactly the same as the cat 12 cabin. And I was concerned about the cat 12 being noisy because of Route 66 above, but we never had a problem.

So if you have stayed in a cat 11 room before then this wouldn't be much different. And with a guarantee room, hopefully you will end up with an upgrade. Even if you don't, you will have a great time!

Cat 11 and cat 12 rooms are the same, just different locations on the ship. You will spend so little time in the cabin that it really won't matter IF you are ok with the single (not split) bathroom. Yes, you do have a chance of being upgraded, but do not buy this category if you will be unhappy without an upgrade.

The only thing in your post that I'll take issue with is that statement that you can upgrade at the port. You MIGHT be able to upgrade at the port, but don't bank on it. DO not book a cabin if you will be unhappy in that category.

The cost of the third passenger depends on the age of the passenger. Teens pay $799, which is the "entry level" adult rate on the 7 day. DCL used to make cat 11 the "entry level" cabin. They seem to have changed this to the cat 12 now, which does make more sense. I never could figure why an 11 was cheaper than a 12.

DD whines about not having a porthole, but I continue to point out to her that we can do more cruises in lower categories, or only one cruise with a balcony. That usually convinces her.....

I do think I would be fine if they gave me a 12. If I asked for an upgrade at the port I figured I would pay for it at that time?

I don't plan on being in my room much...Just to change and sleep.

My DD is 6 and it still seemed a bit high for the 3rd person???

Too me Disney is worth the money!!!

I think I am going to do it!! I really want to go on the 7 day cruise!!

If there are upgrades available at the port. The thing is the ship could be sold out. There may not be any upgrades available. That's why you shouldn't book a category any lower than would be acceptable to you. Sure you may get upgraded, but if you don't and can't purchase an upgrade at the port, then you may be in a cat. 12. Not that it's a bad thing, but if you are not satisfied then it would be a bad thing.

Personally, we don't spend a lot of time in our cabin, so we do book cheaper categories. Personally, I would prefer to book a 12 for a 7 day than to book a higher category for a 3 or 4 day cruise. And my DH's perspective is that he would rather book a lower category and go more frequently

But, everyone is different, so you have to do what you would be satisfied with. If you are trying to decide between an 11 and a 12 and you are saying an 11 is a lot more. Well, the 12 is the same cabin, but some would consider the location less desireable. If you are thinking you want more room, then you need to go with a 10 or higher.
