casual corner?

Did all casual corner's close? What about petite sophisticate? I liked their clothes except that many needed to be dry cleaned. I thought that our outlet was the only one closing, but when I went to the mall, I found that the Casual Corner there was also gone? Is the company totally out of business?

I read something about them all closing. Got some great clothes for some great prices during their closing at Petite Sophisticate though.

I will REALLY miss Petite Sophisticate, a large amount of my wardrobe came from there.

Yep, all of the Casual Corner, Petite Sophisticate and August Max Woman stores are closed. They finished liquidating everything in January, I believe.

RIP... those were some of my favorite stores over the years.

Here's a bit from a trade journal announcement about the closings:

Sound the death knell for another retailer: Casual Corner Group announced last month that it will close all of its 525 stores in 42 states and in Puerto Rico.

Casual Comer Group, which includes Casual Corner, Casual Corner Annex and Petite Sophisticate stores, began closing sales on Black Friday. Various reports have estimated that the retail-chain group will officially close its stores as early as January or February 2006.

However, Susan Cronin, spokesperson for Gordon Brothers, would not comment on the date for the official store closings. Gordon Brothers, a retail liquidating company, bought Casual Corner in August from Retail Brand Alliance, who sold it in an effort to focus more on its Brooks Brothers business...

I loved Casual Corner when the clothes fit me. But then when I became larger than standard junior/misses' size, I didn't like the clothes August Max had to offer. They just looked "old lady" to me.

I like Lane Bryant and Avenue stores.

I heard at one time another company would be buying them and changing them to a new store but I think that was just a rumor as it hasn't seemed to happen!

I found their quality to be very, very poor (ALL my dress pants from there literally fell apart within a few months) but they had good sales on occasion!

It seems like there are fewer and fewer nice ladies stores. And TONS of teen girl and tween girl stores!

I agree. It is very difficult to find clothes that look nice on someone who is not a junior.

I still wear junior sizes, but too many of the clothes are designed for someone 20+ years younger. However, the clothes designed for my age group (Koret, Sag Harbor, Jones New York, etc) are too matronly. I know I fit the definition of a matron, but I don't want to dress like my mother!

I end up buying a lot of Liz Clairborne, and picking and choosing among high end designers for items I deem appropriate for my age.

The really high end stuff is also not quite right (IMO) for "women of a certain age."
