Does anyone know if they will open up the castle to walk thru again:confused3 or why it was closed?

from what I remember it seems to me that they closed it after 9 11 for safety issues and as far as I know they arent planning on reopening it but you never know:confused3

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but from what I remember there was a door in the tunnel that lead up a staircase and through a hallway, all of this in the castle. In the hallway there were scene displays (think Emporium windows) that told the story of Sleeping Beauty.

I only found that place once, and I totally happened upon it. If I didn't have pictures I would swear I imagined it!

You are correct. :] I really miss it, I can just barely remember what it looked like.

Slight correction: The door into Sleeping Beauty's Castle is outside in Fantasyland, next to what is now the Once Upon A Time gift shop. After ascending the stairs, you'd actually cross over through the Castle, descending on the opposite side from the entrance.

When I was growing up, it was a "B" Ticket (later downgraded to an "A") -- and was rarely open even then. There were some cool scenes inside, including one area that acted like an echo chamber, IIRC.

We would always do the walkthrough whenever it was open and we do miss it :sad1: . It was closed after 9/11 and some say it is also because it isn't accessible to all. Many stairsteps and dim lighting but the displays were beautiful. DDs loved to watch the fairy godmothers change the color of Sleeping Beauty's gown!

I vaguely remember the last time we went thru it the echo chamber was gone.Apparently too many 'dirty' words were being yelled into it,(not that 'I' would ever do that):rolleyes1

haha :rotfl: surrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre....I went through there every time we went until they closed it...the only thing I didnt like about it was they used barbie and ken in some of the scenes

...they should have made their own:sad2:

I had no idea they'd ever done that...it's too bad. My princess-loving 2-year-old would have been in pure heaven.

About 6 yrs ago a CM said that it was 911 related. she said that there were too many nooks to put things and that the castle was considered a type of symbol of disney, thus would be a major target if there was some sort of attack (this was said after we asked about why TSI was still around if it too had nooks.)

I also read that the props inside the castle are gone, and that the inside is being used mainly for storage. I wonder what happens to the old things in rides/attractions?

OHMYGOSH. I had no idea. We're meeting relatives there in July. I've been telling them all the differences good and bad between DL and WDW and this was one of the highlights. I understand the seriousness of the situation and know it was a rather small attraction, but very unique noneless.

Thanks Al Quaeda.

mattmommy,

I think the greatest things about DL is the fact that Walt walked down those streets, rode those rides, and really was a part of DL. He never got to do that at WDW. To me, that legacy is a HUGE reason why I prefer DL.

I know, it sucks that terror has shut down a wonderful place! Too bad they couldn't make some changes and possibly keep the walkthrough open, though.

It was such a large memory from all of my childhood trips, I still miss it. But, at least we did it every trip that it was open (30 or so :) )

I think I read in one of the "Mouse Tales" books about it also being a special place for those young folks feeling a bit amorous...the fact that all those nooks and crannies created some semi-private space was apparently just too good for some to pass up!

Also, it was very small and narrow, creating people jams throughout...limited exits created a fire hazard as well.

Although it's outside, Tarzan's Treehouse creates the same type of logjam in Adventureland. I wonder how much longer it will last...it was closed last week while we were there, supposedly for rehab but no one was around.
However, those animatronics working on the new Pirate Lair looked so REAL! One even had a Playmate cooler as a prop....:lmao:

I was told by a previous CM that it basically came down to graffiti. . . other people ruined it for the vast majority. . .
