CastawayCay Swimming in Dec -- Too Cold???

We sailed January 4th of this year and people were in the pool everyday....it only seemed to be chilly when you got out of the pool. On CC it was very breezy and about 70 degrees....there were people in the water but not me!!!

The pool is usually fine. It's too chilly in the water for me in Castaway Cay in December, usually, but plenty of people (my daughter included) splash away. :)

We cruised the second week of December last year, and swam both on the pool and at CC. The water at CC was a bit chilly at first, but either it warmed up or I became numb ;) , but we enjoyed it tremendously. There were a lot more kids than adults in the water, but we three old people spent more than an hour in the water.

We were on the Dec. 15 Wonder cruise last year and the water at Castaway Cay was very cold (according to my husband, who likes cold weather, but the water temp at CC was even a little cold for him). The pools onboard are heated so that was okay.

We cruised the beginning of last January and swam in the pools and at CC. The water was a little chilly, but since we're from Jersey, it didn't seem so bad. Guess it depends on what you can tolerate and what you think is cold.

I can't speak from experience about CC, but I can tell you that on warmer December days here in NE FL, my family and I will go swimming at the beach. I agree with the above post, however, that it depends on your personal level of tolerance. I grew up in MA, where the ocean is toe-numbingly cold in August, and DH is from MN ('nuff said.)

We were there at the end of Jan in 2001. The pool water was wonderful, especially in the Mickey's ears. The black coloring and the shallow water heated up very quickly under the warm sun. The water at CC was cold. Besides the initial shock, we weren't able to stay in it for more than 15-20 minutes. There were plenty of kids (incl. our DS3 & DD1) splashing around in the water there, but i'd say they are not good judge of the water condition. After 15 minutes or so, my DS3 was shivering and his lips were turning a bluish tint, but he still swore up-and-down that he wasn't cold. I had to drag him out of the water and made him sit in the sun to warm up before letting him back in for another 15 minutes... :smooth:

When I cruised in December 2000, the water was much warmer than we had anticipated and we had a blast swimming and snorkeling at Castaway Cay as well as at WDW prior to the cruise. It's really hard to say how warm or how cold it will be until much closer to that time as I have also been to WDW in December when you couldn't have paid me enough to get into a pool!

Hey piglet33.

The water was a little chilly, but since we're from Jersey, it didn't seem so bad.

Based upon THAT comparison, the water could've been frozen...
