Forecast for the day I will be at castaway is okay, but shows possible thunderstorms. Can I ask what happens if you're on the island during this? We will have a cabana. Do you stay in the cabana? Thanks for any info :)

Hasn't happened to me, but I bet most people go back to the ship if the weather is that bad. Showers usually just pass through and don't last long. Hope you have good weather. Might be ok to stay in the cabana. I suppose if it isn't safe for some reason dcl will tell you.

We've never been in a cabana during a storm, but we have experienced storms on a couple of stops and they made everyone leave the beach and go under the shelter at Cookies. The front of the cabanas are usually open, but there are doors that could be closed if need be. There really is not a huge space under the roof in a cabana, maybe a space about 8'x10'. There is a sofa and a couple of chairs, so there would be a place to sit.

My wife and I were on Serenity Bay (adult beach) when a storm came in. That beach was so empty and there were so few people in the water, there was no announcement or anything, or at least we did not hear anything. We just headed for shelter on our own.

Our child was in Scuttle's Cove. Before rain started they moved the kids through a back gate into the Pop's Props seating area for Cookies. They all seemed to be doing just fine. We waited out the storm there while many people went back to the ship.

Conditions improved enough to spend more time in the water and our child got some more time in Scuttle's Cove.

I'm all for waiting it out. But then I'm from Houston. Thunderstorms can be quite short, but so long as you have a place to stay during the storm, you should be fine.
If it's a bigger storm, CMs will come warn you and tell you where to seek shelter.

Rain alone is OK, and you are allowed to remain on the beach if you choose. In thunderstorms, we were instructed to remain under the nearest shelter. Before the storm hit, we were advised that if we planned to return to the ship, we needed to do it then; once the storm hit the trams would stop for the duration.

As noted, the thunderstorms usually blow over quickly. Sorry, but I don't know if the cabanas are considered sufficient shelter.

We were at Serenity Bay when a lightning storm came through a couple of years ago, the CMs got everyone off the beach and into the storage shed behind the bar (got really hot in there). We waited it out, when things calmed down a little we went to the porch area of the bar and then we got the all clear to go back to the beach.

EVERYBODY (with all of their stuff) goes to Cookies!! You have to clear the beach & a lot of times there simply is not time to get back to the ship. Most people will stay on the beach until the last minute hoping it will blow around or something but as soon as the lifeguards see lightening or hear thunder they'll clear everyone out of the water & tell you to move it. Cookies shelter is pretty much the only place to go for the long haul. It's ummmm....cozy.:rolleyes1

A storm was passing the island when we were there in July 2010. The wind picked up a bit but the storm stayed out to sea. One thing that did happen for the 20 minutes the storm took to blow by was all parasailing was cancelled for that time period. Unfortunately that was when the DW and I were to go. Almost a year later and my DW still says I conjured up the storm to get out of it.:wizard::wizard:
