Cast Member Comps Linked to MDE

This is a new one that has me a bit stressed...

A friend of mine who works for ABC (and is thus a Disney cast member) gave me two of his "friends & family" comp tickets for my upcoming trip to WDW. They came to me in an email as an e-ticket with a barcode.

I linked that barcode to my MDE account, and seemingly didn't have any problems. However, when I just called Disney for something, the cast member on the phone told me that employee comps can not be linked to MDE, and those tickets are now invalid.

As you can probably guess, I'm a bit freaked out now. Does anyone have any experience with this? Are my tickets really invalid?

I'm going to try calling ticket services in the morning, and hopefully my stress level will go down a bit... But for right now... AHHHHHH!!! HELP!!!!!

You are not suppose to link CM Comps to MDE. They currently won't work. As long as you bring the printed out version then guest relations will be able to help.

Ha. MDE had no problem accepting the numbers though.

I do have the printed out PDFs of the e-tickets. You're saying if I bring those with me to WDW, all SHOULD be well?

Yes! Take them to Guest Relations/Services to exchange for hard plastic RFID tickets. You cannot enter a park with just the paper ticket at WDW.

I knew I'd have to take the paper tickets to Guest Relations. I just freaked out a bit when the lady on the phone told me that by entering the CM comps into MDE, I had completely invalidated the tickets...

The comps (or any other CM ticketing) cannot, at this time, be linked to the MDE or FP+. When you get to the park, you will have to take the e-ticketing to Guest Relations and they will be converted to an RFID "hard card" at that time. If you try to use them at the touch-point entries, you will be directed to Guest Relations to do the conversion.

Having said all of that, in the future, not knowing when your trip is, it "might" be possible to do FP+ at that time. The changeover/linkage will occur, there just has not been a timetable announced as to when.

CM's have message in red that states that we should not link comps to MDX at this time. That being said, the CM telling you they are void because you linked it to MDX is incorrect and doesn't know what they are talking about. Bring the paper printout as a back up. If you have any issues - it's just a mdx issue that is coincidental but not caused by the fact that it is a Cast distribution comp. I've done it and seen it done countless times without issue.

That helps me relax a little bit... Hopefully I won't have any issues.

It's kind of silly though... the CM gets a message in red, which is fine... but the people they distribute the tickets to (in my case, it was a Hanukkah gift) don't get a warning message at all! I don't get that one bit.....

It's because the comp ticket is accessed by and issued to the CM. Your CM friend acquired it and forwarded the comp ticket to you. He/she was responsible in letting you know how to use it.

So even though it will link to the MDE account they won't work with the Magic Band? Like the OP, we are using some CM's comps for one person in our party and I've linked one of the tickets to their Magic Band. It even let me make FP+ reservation for that person for the one day they have the ticket. So I guess I shouldn't link the rest of the CM comps to the account? My other question is how does this work since everyone else in our party will have AP's and already have FP+ reservations, what does this mean about the person in our group using the comps?

It's best to follow the protocol and directives that were given to the CMs. It's especially important because the Comp Tickets can be linked/traced back to the specific CM.

Even though it appears you can link and schedule Fp+, this isn't an option that has been announced to CMs. Once you are in the parks, your Fp+ schedule can be copied to the other person's MagicBand.

I completely understand, as long as we can copy the FP+ to their account it's fine. However, should we still redeem the ticket we accidentally linked to the Magic Band at GR?

Yes, exchange for the hard, plastic ticket and use the ticket and not the MB to enter the park.

So it's alright to link it to our account once in the park and copy the FP+ selections to it?

You'll have to ask at a kiosk or Guest Relations when you exchange for the hard ticket. Others have reported Guest Relations and Concierge allowed them either Fp+ access or a Fp ticket to be used with their party's scheduled Fp+.

The ticket is already converted when linked to MDX, your information is outdated.

Well the only reason I ask is because I technically wasn't supposed to link the cast comp ticket but I didn't know at the time. It worked though and I've booked FP+ with it. I'm just worried if for some reason it won't work with the MB or I need to get the other plastic ticket instead.

You will still have to go to Guest Relations with the paper e-ticket and "convert it" to a plastic, hard card for park entry (paper e-tickets are not to be used at the touch-point entries except for the party events). At that point, whatever information that you had entered in the MDE app, will not (at least shouldn't) transfer over to the plastic hard card, so the ticketing would not show the FP+ information. It may be able to be added to the hard card at the various kiosks inside the park though.

Depending on when your trip takes place, some things may already be in place to change some of this information.

Our trip is in a few days, so no changes will have been made unfortunately. This is just going to add several complications to our trip that I wasn't anticipating would be a problem.

When you enter the ticket information into MDX it converts to an electronic entitlement which is linked to the guest and also their MB. If they can make FP+ then it was successful. There is nothing that needs to be done further as that entitlement is linked to their MB for park entry. The process you're describing is what guest relations does if it hasn't already been converted. CM comps shouldn't be linked because they were asked not to, but OP and mm552 will be fine if they did.
