I saw Cast Member Appreciation Certificates on mouseforless. Has anyone given these out? Do the cast members look at you like you're a lunatic, or do they appreciate the thought?? TIA!:thumbsup2

I'm not familiar with the certificates. When we were there on Christmas Day 2006 we gave out cards with $5 gift certificates to Pizza Hut, Dunkin Donuts or Wendys to anyone we thought really made our trip special. Or to just random people because I appreciated them working on Christmas. ;) We didn't see anyone actually open them so as long as we were standing there they just thought it was a card. Everyone seemed very appreciative.

1) I like to give recognition cards.
2) I print something on the reverse side of my business card.
3) This way the CM can show to their manager and get credit.
4) The credits don't help much, but At-A-Boys are always appreciated..

We gave out cards last week...the CMs who were truly doing an oustanding job treasured them and all commented about how they would put them in their scrapbooks. Some of the others did look at us kind of strange, but maybe they weren't sure how to handle the gesture.

I think those are super cute! I think those would really brighten up the day of most of the Cast Members I know, and let them know they're doing well =) Especially the ones you would most likely give them to =p

Ok here comes the party-pooper, Debbie Downer post...

Customized CM recognition cards are great. Really, they are. But the very best you're doing for that CM is giving them a 60 second smile and scrapbook fodder. Unfortunately, as in the post I quoted, showing them to a manager will not do a thing. The manager will say "That's nice" and everyone will go about their business.

If you sincerely do want to recognize a CM and give them some recognition that they can actually use, there are two ways to go about doing this. First of all, all the parks' Guest Relations locations carry compliment letters. Just go in there, tell the host you want one, and all you have to do is put who you're writing it to - "John @ Jungle Cruise" and then a brief message like "Thanks for making magic!". These *official* comment cards WILL go to that CM's manager and, not only is the CM recognized at the next local area meeting, but it also will go on that CM's permanent record which counts towards promotions, raises, etc.
Now number two is really to go the extra mile. Have a pen/paper with you and write down the names of the CM's that really do make some extra magic on your trip. Once home, take 5 minutes to write their names in a quick e-mail to Guest Communications. This works from the top down. Executives get this who then pass it to the managers who then pass it to the CM - thus EVERYONE knows that this CM did something good.

So, what I always say is by all means use the recognition cards, but do something for the CM that will really help them as much as they helped you. Let Disney know!!!

Thanks for the info! It's great to know that we can actually help a cast member that went above and beyond. I think I will do the recognition cards, and on the back write a message that I intend to fill out a compliment letter and email for them!

We made some up for our honeymoon in 2005. It was our 4th day and we were eating at the BD and our server was amazing, he took such good care of us and gave us a champagne toast. We obviously left him one of these cards with the tip. The next day we were @ EPCOT and he came up to us and asked "didn't I wait on you 2 yesterday at the BD" We told him yes and thanked him again for the wonderful service. He was @ EPCOT hanging out on his day off and he told us that he really liked the card we left and wanted to thank us for it (which we thought was nice) and he told us he showed it off to the other CMs that day. They all thought it was the coolest gesture.

We do agree with the OP always tell a manager or write a letter when you
get home to show the praise in another way, but the cards do help for a sense of pride and instant satisfaction in a job well done.

Ok, here's what I ended up doing. I printed out the CM Appreciation Cards. Then, I printed out colorful labels with Mickey Mouse on them. I wrote:

Thanks for being a great CM!
On your behalf, we will be filing a
Compliment Letter at Guest Relations,
and sending an email to Disney
Guest Communications when we get home!

I will stick the labels on the back of the Appreciation Cards. Hopefully that will make them happy, and bring a lil magic to THEIR day!! :thumbsup2
