Bill Neth has been an important part of the DIS family since he joined in fall, 2000. His love for Disney and understanding of Walt Disney World and Disney Vacation Club were evident from the start as he shared his knowledge and experience on the forums.
With a background as an engineer, he had a real knack for simplifying some of the more complex aspects of
DVC to those seeking help and understanding. He frequently created a chart to illustrate the concepts he was explaining and was able to break down the policies into understandable terms.
On his WDW trips, he often carried his GPS and tracked accurate distances around various areas of WDW. Thanks to Bill, we know the distance from Building 55 at Old Key West to Cirque is 0.93 mile. He also shared many photos of his Disney travels and often enhanced his distance reports with photos of the area being measured.
With his engineering background came an expertise that led to him joining the DIS Technical Support team where he shared his knowledge helping others solve issues navigating the DIS as well as their own personal computers.
His experience with DVC (joining in June, 1993) and his generous way with others led to his addition as a moderator on the DVC Forums. In his spare time he developed some user friendly (and free) software tools to assist DVC Members in planning. These tools included a
Point Chart program, a DVC Planner and a full blown DVC Tracker to record all aspects of a DVC membership and the members travel plans. Due to recent point chart changes made by Disney, Bill had been working on a software upgrade to include the new
point charts and eventually planned to provide a means for users of his programs to manually update any future changes made by DVC. He had hoped to have those revisions completed in the coming weeks.
As a DVC Rent/Trade moderator he also developed software to the rather tedious task of reviewing each thread submitted to that board and tracking the maintenance of each thread to meet the needs of the board itself. He later created software to track and notate reports by DIS members regarding future unavailability at DVC resorts.
Along with his wife Peg, children Mike and Kathy, brother John and sister Phyllis, we at the DIS mourn the loss of a great contributor, a most kind and generous person, a wonderful teacher, creative engineer and above all - a great friend.
He is missed by his DIS Family.
