I don't "take" large amounts of Disney Dollars with me. I buy them as I need them with my cc. Usually in $20 increments every few days. The most you can purchase at one time on a cc is $50.
I have only stayed offsite on a couple of occasions. On those trips I did take more cash than I would normally take on an "onsite" stay.
On Disney property, there is very little if any need for cash as 90% of all establishments take some type of plastic.
Only the smallest carts do not take ccs/resort ids.
Offsite, more and more FF restaurants are even accepting ccs. However, in my hometown, McDonalds is one of the few that still take cash only. Wendys, Burger King, Captain D's all take ccs.
The only place at WDW where I need more cash is at Ft. Wilderness because I tend to purchase more canned/bottled sodas out of a machine since the refillable mug program is such a distance from the campsites and since you have to pay for ice there it is also not practical for me to purchase sodas and keep them in a cooler.
