Cash rooms no longer available to DVC members?

Wife and I just became DVC members and were looking into booking out first trip Jan 1-7. Member services stated that there were no rooms available for consecutive nights during our requested stay, but when you go to WDW website and try to book a vacation it has rooms available for the same stay at SS, OKW, and VWL. Anybody know what's going on here? I remember reading something to the effect that 60 days before check-in date Disney could open rooms up for cash reservation. Once that is done are they no longer available to DVC members even if they are still available? Anyone?

There are two inventory sources for DVC resorts.

The member's inventory is available for point reservations (and DVC cash discounted reservations when there is availability).

The cash inventory is available from the 2-4% owned by Disney .... AND ... from the points used by members for the non-DVC options like Disney Cruise Line, WDW resorts, Concierge Collection and Adventure Collection. Those rooms are made available for cash rental thru CRO. In addition, rooms unreserved using points are available to CRO at 60 days prior (those rooms are also still available to DVC members within 60 days).

This year, early January is a popular time for DVC members (low points, most schools still out) so there is minimal availability for member reservations.

The cash availability is not usually available to members and the point availablility is not usually available to non-members either.

In addition to what Doc has already mentioned, the last part of your stay is over Marathon weekend. There have been waitlists for that time for quite a while. It probably won't make you feel better, but if you had been able to book for that time 7 - 11 months prior, you would not have had a problem. Mention this in case you are worried about this time frame in the future.

FWIW, availability 60 days or less prior to arrival is often limited - no matter what time of the year it happens to be.

At 60 days, unrented points rooms can be rented for cash via CRO (and shows up in the dues budget as a credit) but not the other way around.

There are over 29,000 people registered for the two marathons on Jan 7 & 8. You have to be there at least a day early to get your packets.
Unless you can get a cancellation................
