We are planning a trip for the F&W fest in 2007. We've invited some friends to go along, but they don't want to use the points we've offered them for their room. They said the points are ours and they don't want to take them from us as they would feel more comfortable just paying cash for their room.

Hence the question. Can I call MS and reserve a room for them at the cash discount rate or is that for Members only?

The cash discount is only for members. You'd need to be staying in the room. You could still reserve one room on points and another on cash and just let them "rent" points from you for the same amount as the discounted cash rate if that would be OK with them. The discount is 25% off the rack rate. Sometimes there are better rates - sometimes not.

The cash discount is not always available, so just be prepared for that possibility.

Enjoy!

I was about to post the same question, Great minds think alike. :thumbsup2

I called last week to get a cash res for a studio for my mother who decided to join us at VWL after we already booked. I gave them my mother's name and I said "I need to also be in the room to make a cash res, right?"

The response from the CM, verbatim was, "no ma'm, you do not."

Needless to say, I got the confirmation, and my mother's name is the only name on it. Could it be because she is a family member? However she now has a different last name, though I think I told the CM this was for my mother.

Are there any thoughts on that?

Oops, I forgot to add. The cash res is also linked to the res I made on points. Thanks~!

I'd say you got a newer CM at MS who doesn't know all the rules yet.

It is a little known fact but the 25% DVC member discount is available to DVC member, family and friends. The DVC member does not have to be on the reservation and the DVC member does not have to be staying. I have confirmed this with several CM and supervisors and have also made some reservations.

Yep your right. :thumbsup2

The rules must have changed. A few couple of years ago I was going to make a cash ressie with the discount for a couple of our rooms when we were having a grand gathering. I was told that a member MUST be staying in the rooms to get the discount. We could have accomplished this only by DH and I each staying in one of the discounted rooms. Instead we added-on points (an okay resolution in the end!)

I tried to book a cash ressie months ago and save some of my points for the weekend nights and it was not available. I called again the other day and still not available. How do they decide when it is going to be available? We have a 2 bedroom and the points for the weekends are high.
