Cash Pay Question

Hi, I am considering a resale purchase for a number of points that likely won't be enough for the usual time of the year we will be going to Disney (i.e. Easter week). Can anyone explain to me how the cash pay option works? If I book 11 months in advance and want to book a week but only have enough points for say 5 days, am I allowed at 11 months to reserve the remaining two nights with cash? Are there restrictions? I know there are banking and borrowing options available but I was just wondering how the cash options works. Thanks. For a (hopefully) soon to be DVC member, this forum has a wealth of information.

We have paid cash for nights on many of our trips. We have been able to book these cash nights at the 11 month window as well have been told to call back at the 6-month window to book. The cash discount is not always available either. I have gotten the discount at the 11 month, but have had to wait until much closer (3-months prior) before MS would be able to get me a discount. Unfortunately, it isn't automatic. I think it is based on what they feel the demand will be.

Thanks sheryl. By the way, what is the 6 month window you were referring to. I am aware of the 11 and 7 month windows for book home resort and other resorts but haven't seen anything about a 6 month window. Thanks again.

Sorry about the 6-month "window" reference, when booking cash - MS may tell you to call 6 months prior to the date you are looking for. I used the "window" reference in error. Some words just slip off the tounge (keyboard.)

If MS expects that the points will be in short supply for that time of year, you probably won't get the cash nights. Easter week may be one of those times.

You could get a reservation through CRO and see if they can sort of link the reservations. They can't do it actually because the reservations come from two different sources. But each reservation can have the other reservation number listed on it. Then when you check in, you ask to see if you will be staying in the same room.

Some rooms you won't get with cash from CRO. Like two bedrooms with two queen sized beds in the second bedroom unless it is OKW where all the second bedrooms have two queen sized beds. You won't get a Boardwalk view for cash.

We booked a cash reservation last year at Easter. Two nights, Fri. and Sat. a studio at OKW. When we arrived, they surprised me by upgrading our room to a 1 bedroom at no extra charge! On Easter Sunday we moved to VWL for the rest of our vacation. It was wonderful! We booked the vacation 11 months earlier and they linked the ressies from the beginning. Hope this helps.

Upgrades are hard to come by with DVC, but they can happen with cash ressies, usually not point ressies.

Congrats!
