Cash instead of points

Can someone tell me about paying cash instead of using points for members.
Do members get a break when paying cash? Can both cash and points be used? Are there ways to save when paying cash like annual passholders discounts and others? Any other advice?

There is a 25% member discount on DVC rooms. You can combine it with a points stay. I have done it in the past to add a Friday and/or Saturday night to a points stay. Cash rooms are subject to availability. If the room type is exactly the same, you will not have to change rooms, it is treated as one stay. Housekeeping follows DVC rules.

DVC rooms are also sometimes available with an AP discount. OKW & SSR have a $110 discount for 7/5 to 8/5. For studios & 1 bedrooms, this would be a better discount than the DVC member discount. You are not guaranteed to keep the same room with a CRO reservation, although they will try to keep the same room (assuming it's the same type). You get daily housekeeping.

The DVC cash discount is usually only offered on rooms that they don't think will be used for points stays. So there is not always cash nights at a discount available through MS.

If you book a stay on cash through CRO on an AP rate or AAA rate, they officially cannot link the reservations and you might have to move. But if you have both places note the other reservation number on their reservation, you might not have to move. You will have to check out and check back in, though.

You're actually better off renting points than taking the AP discount. SSR is 13 pts/ night x going rate of $10 pp= $130/ night vs. AP price of $159. However, renting points could be a bit more of a hassle, particularly if you're only looking for a night or two.

I tried like mad to get the DVC discount on HH &/ or VB anytime during the summer & there was not a discount to be found.

That's true for weeknights but weekends are 29 points. An AP rate would be much better for Friday or Saturday.
