Trying to figure out how to break down our spending money. Just wondering what everyone else does. Do you mostly use cash, travellers cheques or credit cards? and how much do you take in cash and or travellers cheques??? thanks

For us it is mostly travellers cheques with some cash and credit cards for hotels, rental car etc. As for the amount... well that varies for us from trip to trip, but as a general guide line we are a family of 4 (kids 8 and 16) and we usually budget around $150 / day for all things, excluding hotel, car, etc. basically for things like food, gifts, souvenirs etc...:)

I use credit cards for the bigger items like tickets, transportation (towncar) and hotels. I always keep cash on hand... just in case. I charge most other things to my room and then I pay it off using a combination of traveller's cheques and credit card.

I usually have a couple hundred in cash ... say $200 and then $500-$700 in traveler's cheques. I figure the traveller's cheques will eventually change into cash at some point when I pay for something.

I prepay a lump sum on my CIBC Aerogold Visa. This way I charge pretty much everything to that and get all the Air Canada mileage for my spending! I may have $2-300 cash for miscellaneous but the bulk of it goes on the card with no surprises coming home!

Works for us..

Travellers Cheques for us we only use the CC when it is absolutely a must. We also carry cash usually a third of the spending money is cash the rest is TC'c we use the cash for gas etc on the way down and back. We try to limit our spending money to between 500 and 800 dollars each trip

When we stay on property, we usually bring about $600US cash, and use the room charge for dining, souvenirs, etc. There's very few places where you need cash if you aren't leaving the world. Our towncar prefers cash, and then the rest we divide out by day, and leave the rest in the room safe. We've never run out of cash.

Room charge is good because we get Airmiles for the whole trip (we just cashed them in for a digital camera).

Kungaloosh!
