Did I read a post that said a cash bar can count towards a wishes minimum? Any idea what drink prices are like for a cash bar?

I think what you're talking about is a bill on consumption where I only pay for what's consumed. It's a great deal if you have a small party especially for a breakfast/brunch/lunch reception. I plan on doing a BOC bc my family Are not drinkers.
 
Just make sure your guests know ahead of time if you're doing a Cash Bar/ Partisl Cash Bar at your reception. It does catch guests off guard when they are told they are paying for drinks at your Wedding. It certainly caught my DH and I off guard at my sisters wedding when it was 1/2 Open Bar turned Cash Bar. Our dad usually did open bar at other family events he hosted(our Bat Mitzvah's) and it was odd to have to pay for 1 Cosmo and not know it turned cash bar.
 
I honestly don't mean to turn this into a debate or anything, but something to think about... People are already shelling out a lot of money to attend your wedding in Disney. More so than for other destination wedding locations and a whole lot more than for an at home wedding. Asking them to then pay for their drinks on top of the expenses they incurred just to attend doesn't really seem right... I really think that, particularly in the case where all guests are traveling to attend, they shouldn't be asked to pay for anything else.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox now. As I said, no debate intended, just my opinion.

I have to agree with this. You're expecting your guests to travel to your wedding at WDW and then they also have to pay for their own drinks? If I was a guest, I'd be kind of offended.

I plan on paying the per drink price but I'll be paying it, not my guests.
 
I did a cash bar, I'm from the UK and every wedding I've ever been to did a a cash bar, it's no big deal over here, no-one expected otherwise. It did count towards our minimum, we were at $9500 or something before the wedding and we went way over our minimum with the cash bar.

Agree! Even if it isn't a destination wedding, you are still hosting an event. However, more so that it IS a destination wedding and guests are spending a lot of money to be there.

I wholehartedly agree with you. If it's too much of an expense than don't serve alcohol and your guests can pay for their own drinks at an After Party, but it is tacky to have a cash bar at a wedding, especially I know those hosting the wedding are shelling out a lot of money, but so are your guests to come to a Wedding in Disney. In all honesty guests don't expect to pay for their own drinks at a wedding.
 
I think this is almost a culture thing!! In UK it is usual for there to be a cash bar at weddings and guests expect it!! They are always very surprised to have a hosted bar. At my vow renewal in 2011 I am hosting the drinks, but only because I have a very small guest list (about 14). If I were having a larger affair, I would be quite happy to have a cash bar. My guests would think that was the norm. It's not in the US, I think :thumbsup2
 
Okay ladies! Thanks for the passionate responses! Cash bar is different than BOC then? From my interpretations, cash bar is as if the guests were at a bar and buying each drink as they go. BOC is you pay at the end of it whatever your guests drank. Is this right? Is Cash bar even an option at Disney?

My guests are actually paying less to have a disneyworld wedding than they would to travel to Northwestern Ontario in November. I'm not in favour/opposed to having guests pay for drinks at some point. I'd just like to know all the options. Thanks again! I hadn't checked the post in a couple days...sorry if I caused a "ruffle".
 
Yes, a cash bar is an option, it's in the bar packages pdf I was sent.

A BOC is per drink but in the end you pay for it and a cash bar is when you have your guests pay the per drink price.

We are also having both a brunch and dinner reception on our wedding day, where tons of alcohol (on us) will be available. Do you think we need to still offer it on our rehearsal night? Especially when people need to get up super early for our 9 am ceremony?

I appreciate your opinions!

I think no alcohol would be fine! Anyone that desperate to drink can go and do so at their hotel after your rehearsal, but I bet no one will even notice the absence.

Thanks for your opinion! Plus, my planner told me people can buy alcohol in Epcot, and bring it into our roped off area.

If I was having a DP I wouldn't serve alcohol either. It's a short thing, maybe 2 hours max and really alcohol isn't necessary.
 
I don't think not serving alcohol at a dp is big deal at all, especially as a rehearsal dinner. If anythig I'd pick 1 thing like wine and stick to it

I'm sorry if Im turning your question into a debate, not my intentions at all. I'm just informing you that people can be caught off guard when it comes to buying their own drinks at a wedding, especially after what I experienced first hand at my sister's wedding. If you aren't having an Open Bar but a Cash Bar, another option if you don't want a hefty tab for BOC is maybe see if you can purchase Drink Tickets. At least your guests will know how many drinks are on you, and provide Beer or Wine and soft drinks. I think the After Party Trend is a little more classy than Cash Bar where your guests will be paying for their drinks themselves at the wedding than after.
BOC can actually run up a pretty hefty tab and if you have heavy drinking
group might cost you more than Open Bar.
 
I would say Open Bar at a Rehearsal Dinner or DP isn't a must. If you're paying for Open Bar at your Wedding is more than generous. If it's for the Rehearsal Dinner or Dessert Party soft drinks are more than sufficient. Believe me you're not the only one questioning bar options I'm debating with my DH over Open Bar vs. Limited Bar(since there will be little ones, and one being our own) and an After Party. The cost of alcoholic beverages do add up quickly.
