Cash and points combined stay Q?

Has anyone had to switch rooms when staying on both cash and points? I have first night in cash (thru MS with DVC discount) and remainder of stay on points. Same room type, resort, etc...MS said they can't guarantee they'll link... But they will put a note to try to link. Has anyone had to switch doing this? It seems counterproductive in that they'd have to clean a room for no reason. Why can't they guarantee a link?

We were told that we might have to switch. We checked in and asked if we could please not switch. They said they'd note it in the system and see what could be done. Prior to the morning of switching from cash to points, we asked again. A few phone calls later (on their side), they made it so we could stay in the same room.

We DID have to come down in the morning before noon and check out, pay our bill, check back in, and get new keys.

It was explained to us that it is two different reservation systems and two completely different bookings. Think of it as two different hotels. However, if you're nice, persistent, and patient, it is do-able.

What resort and villa category did you book? There are some villas that are not available for cash stays, even if you book through MS. Some are only available for points.

Since you booked both through MS, I would call them and ask them to link the two reservations. And then when you check in request that you won't have to move. You will probably need new keys though for the 2nd reservation period.

Ask to have the reservation number of the other reservation noted on each. When you check in, ask if you have been blocked into the same villa for the entire stay. If not, they might be able to fix it then. And make sure each reservation is titled the same (same lead guest).

Last year we had our first night a a cash night and then points for the rest of the trip. When we checked into BWV, the CM said good news, we have upgraded you to a DVC studio room so you do not have to move tomorrow. All we had to do is go back downstairs and check in the next day. I thought that was great that they thought about this before me!
