ok maybe i watch too many law shows - ncsi csi crminal minds etc but they never talk about how long smells last when a body is found in a car.

anyone know? is this something that would have vanished after a week or so or is the smell of death sooooooo strong it last weeks/months?

Well not sure about the car smell, I know my husband when he goes and cleans carpets and he knows what the smell is like has gone in a few days after the incident and says the smell is there.

feralpeg posted some good links...there have been lots more over the years...sadly I have a wild crime obsession....I love w/s and all the crime shows....
in high school I was reading autobiographies of serial killers...my mom was worried!
The hillside stranglers fascinated me back then!

as I said before...if they ever searched my searches on my pc! yikes!!

For me it was the Atlanta Child Murders, my gawd, who was killin' all those kids 'n later discovered it was Wayne Williams. And John Wayne Gacy 'n of course, Jeffery Dahmer. Geeez, we got some psychotic folks out there. :sad2:

And yes, if the cops ever seized my computer, all the crazy things I've googled. :scared1: :rotfl:

I have no clue but I have heard commentators and reporters say that the car still smells today.

Once upon a time my mom owned a crappy Mercedes. She wanted a luxury car and bought this clunker.:rotfl:

One day--we went to some picnic at her Command....and she brought Egg Salad or Potato Salad--some "salad" made with Mayo.

And then---She forgot about it. I think I am gagging recalling this story!

Well, when she finally removed rotten nasty salad--the smell lingered for DAYS.:faint: It was horrendous.

It did fade, but it never really went away. I think that was when she finally convinced herself to ditch the car. (ETA: Trade it in for some other vehicle that also did not run well, but smelled a whole heck of a lot better!)

So while I cannot attest to how long the smell in question would last. When smells are left in a confined space with permeable/asborbing materials such as the trunk liner and car upholestery--it would take a lot to remove the smell.

We have kitties and if they have an accident as one cat of mine had on a recliner when he had infections--the smell cannot be removed just from surface washing. It lingers and stays. That is why we used Nature's Miracle--the enzymes "eat" whatever causes the odor.

So I have no doubt that IF Caylee was in that car after her passing, :sad1::sad1:, that in the hot summer, if a smell formed and grew to the point of other people noticing, that it wasn't going to just go away when whatever happened to her occurred.

(That is difficult to type--we are talking about a baby girl.:sad1:)

i know - it's horrible.

i get so upset when a child is involved

Someone mentioned George was back on the stand. Is is testifying?

He was.

I think I have it figured out--they are being called up to testify to various parts of the time line. Case is proceeding in order.

When we get to the part where they have to discuss Cindy getting Casey and then calling 911...then we will hear her.

I have heard this also, and they do have a piece of the tire cover from the trunk that they want the jury to smell so they can get an idea of what they are talking about (even after 3 years). Like the info in this article:

A research scientist from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee testified about the smell from Casey Anthony’s car. Arpad Vass is a forensic anthropologist who has published articles on human decomposition. He says Orange County Sheriff’s Detective Yuri Melich asked him to try to determine the source of the odor in the car.

He says when he opened a sealed can containing air and carpet samples from Casey Anthony’s car trunk, the smell was so strong that it made him jump back about two feet. “It was the smell of human decomposition,” Vass testified. Vass analyzed the contents of the sealed can and says he identified 30 chemical compounds that are consistent with decomposition. Vass also said he found an unusually high level of chloroform compared to the other chemicals in the sample. “The actual amount of chloroform that is typically present in remains is about eight times greater than what you see in the control sample. The trunk sample was about 10,000 times greater than what we'd typically see.”

Was the spare tire in the car?

Me too, but I must be wayyyyy older than you - mine began with Agatha Christie books and the old black & white Perry Mason TV shows

Not sure about the actual tire, but the "bodily fluids" :guilty: soaked into the trunk lining, as in this article:

There are also new revelations in the new documents about the mysterious stain in Casey Anthony's car trunk. FBI investigators say the stain is shaped like a child's body in the fetal position. The FBI says the child's back, bottom and legs could be seen most clearly.

Holy Moses!

They did say they had some extra evidence. That would be very hard to cross examine and reasonable doubt that one away.

Thank you, I was thinking if the tire was not there she could have been in that spot so no one could see her.

The thing to remember is that Caylee is not on trail. Casey is on trial and she deserves to have all testimony heard and all evidence presented before the jury decides her fate. I only hope the jury can do that.

I have watched this case from day one. I have read tons of discovery. I have been watching the trail each day. I have yet to decide my feelings as to her guilt or innocence. Of course, I am leaning one way, but I will not make up my mind until I have heard all the evidence from both sides.

The thing that amazes me about this case is the number of people who had her convicted from the day this thing went public. I totally understand that a beautiful child died. It happens all to often. I understand that none of us can relate to the way in which Casey acted after Caylee's death. It makes no sense to a normal logical mind.

The thing I don't understand is why she is hated so much more than all these other people who have committed even more heinous crimes on their own children. Since this case started, there have been several where kids have been murdered by their parents in horrible ways. They barely got a blip on the radar. I'm sorry, but setting your own child on fire seems a lot more horrible to me. The only thing I can assume is the pictures and videos of Caylee that were broadcast non-stop on local news and on network programs such as Good Morning America and Nancy Grace. Caylee was an adorable little and watching the films is heart wrenching. But, people have Casey Anthony right up there on par with Charles Manson. Throughout my life, I've seen serial killers of children get a lot more compassion than has been evident in this case.

I realize that posting on this thread without wanting to immediately string Casey up is not popular. Sorry. I prefer to wait to form my opinion and I will keep that opinion to myself. I really think people should respect the opinions of others (not referring to myself) who might post something in disagreement to the general consensus here.

I think you would be a perfect juror for both sides, wait to hear it all and decide. :thumbsup2
They'd get you on every case they could :goodvibes
The jury has not "allegedly" seen or known what we all know (thru shows, media etc) so it is difficult for some to understand how "anyone" cannot feel she is guilty.
I understand what you are saying, And I agree, to each his/her own opinion....its the discussion here that makes people think...look ..listen...and thats always good IMHO. So, opinions, pls roll on................
