Really? I don't think I would be asking my adult daughter for her pay stubs or tax forms etc....
I don't ask my adult kids for anything. But as a former accountant (and DH is an accountant), it's something that we're aware of..."do you have all your tax information for your tax return?", etc. We don't ask them for their stubs or forms. I suppose if I were a doctor, I'd be more conscientious about them following through with medical issues, no?
Wasn't there some mention of Casey steeling money from Cindy and George? Back when all of this first began 3 years ago?
I know she stole from her grandparents...an account paying for Casey's grandfather's care?

OK, Im here. Geesh, what a morning. My computer , of course crashed and had to watch the opening on my IPhone! Thank goodness for that!! I pretty knew everything the State Attorney had said but I think she's done a nice job putting it all in an organized, easy to follow way. The whole "Where is Caylee" was effective.

About Cindy and George, they are being portrayed in a very good light, probably because the State Attorney knows it will get ugly with them and no need to get them angry now. Cindy and George have gone out of their way to impede the police. As soon as they figured that they lost Caylee, they have gone into full Save Casey mode. When the police asked for a hairbrush of Caylees, she gave them her own brush. They have lied, changed their testimony etc... I get being gutwrenched to have to face that their daughter killed their granddaughter, but its been nasty. If you really pay attention to the jail house visits and such, you can see Cindy coaching her daughter. Cindy has insulted , threatened and lied to people like the leader of Equiisearch who put all his resources into trying to find Caylee. I wonder how much of this will come out?

Personally, I think Cindy is a lying manipulative witch that has basically created what Casey has become and George is a wimp who hasn't been able to stand up to it. I don't buy the whole innocent grandparents bit. But again, my opinion only.

Still looking forward to the Defense statement.

Wasn't the reason behind Casey being AWOL from her parents' home when Caylee went missing because Cindy had confronted her about taking money from a grandparent or writing checks on the grandparent's account?

In session just said that all of the jurors have note pads but are not writing anything they are so focused on the prosecutor.

Everything prosecution is laying out will be covered later. Probably no real need to take notes at this point as it will come up again and again. (i.e. cell phone records submitted into evidence).

I'm an accountant as well, and maybe since my kids are young, but still...I wouldn't even consider giving that info to my own parents once I became an adult...just very odd to me.

Whatever became of Caylee's father? I don't recall ever hearing anything about him.
.

Caylee's father has never been identified. Casey has claimed various fathers at different times. She finally settled on someone who conveniently died in a car accident. Im thinking she doesn't know who it is. One thing for sure, its not Jesse Grund (her ex-fiance) nor Lee (her brother). Lee being the father was a claim being made and he actually had to submit to DNA testing.

I think taking a break during Opening Statements takes away from the momentum. Can't say as I agree with the decision to do so.
Several people have been suggested as Caylee's father, but I think 3 of them died?? Two in car accidents, one committed suicide (before Caylee's death, I think.) Could be wrong if those 3 were actually known to be connected to her, or if it's just rumors.

Yeah, the break in opening statements was unfortunate, but who knows how long it could go on. Judge Perry just said they'll take a lunch break at ?? and whoever is speaking will have to break.
Casey already had an account. Where most of her party photos were taken from.
Right. But Casey didn't say that Caylee was missing.

I know she stole from her grandparents...an account paying for Casey's grandfather's care?

Oh, now that you say that, I remember it. It did have something to do with the grandpa.

She also wrote some checks to pay for things she was buying (at Target, I think) out of her friend's account.

So not only is she an accused murderer of her daughter, but she's also a thief and a liar.

Casey has stolen money from everyone. So much so that Cindy and George have had their accounts emptied. She also stole money from her grandfather and was arrested for stealing money and checks from her friend Amy.

I'm surprised the judge is allowing Casey to shake her head while the prosecutor is speaking. I thought no one was allowed to make any kind of facial expressions or gestures.

This opening statement can go on for another while, I wonder if the defense will be held off until after lunch? The suspense is getting to me, to know what crazy defense they will announce in the first three minutes of their opening.

Oy! LOL You make it sound like we're demanding to see our kids work records and tax stuff. My kids are 18, 20, and 22. At this point, we have an accountant do our tax return...I've been away from taxes for many years, and DH is a Chief Financial Officer...so the kids give DH the information to give to the accountant. I don't know if DH looks at it (I don't)...I will certainly ask him tonight! :teeth: ...and they are certainly welcome to do it themselves, or get someone else to do it for them. I'M JUST SAYING...as accountants, and our situation being what it is, *I* wondered about Casey's tax return. She's living in the same house. (Two of my kids are not.) She's mooching off her parents. I'd personally be MUCH more aware of what's going on financially for an ADULT child of mine living under my roof who was mooching off of me.

I think any outbursts by her wouldn't be acceptable, but surely she can shake her head and cry.

Seems odd to me as well, but let us remember something....

Caylee was fully supported by her grandparents. Casey was a compulsive liar. It may not have occurred to them to have some proof of Casey's employment claims. Additionally, Casey was living with them at the time, presumably rent free since she did not have much money and had to steal money to get her personal items and such. It seems that if they were to have required it due to the very nature of the support they provided, it wouldn't have been odd, IMHO.

I worked throughout my young adult life and my parents never asked for documentation. However, there was easily accessible evidence/witnessed employment that easily proved that I did have a job. If they had any reason to suspect I was not actually working, I totally believed they would have asked some proof. As it were, they did not provide me any support after I left for college. So me actually providing such documentation probably would not have occurred since it was officially none of their business. Had they been providing me significant support and wanted me to have them continue doing so, me not showing documentation of my employment would have resulted int the support being rescinded based on other actions of my parents.

They are allowed 2 hours for opening statements. She has about 20 minutes left.

:thumbsup2

In this situation--they had every right to demand proof.

Those with responsible adult children making their own way would have no need, nor any right to demand it.

If Casey were to assert her "right" to keep that private, they could have kicked her to the curb. Of course they would never do that since she would have taken Caylee with her.

And unfortunately, it made no difference anyway. Covering for her lies and not demanding accountability led to the biggest and most lethal lie of all.:sad1:

this is great - laying out the 31 days, by day.....

can't wait to hear the defense. Will be interesting which speculation is the truth for their defense.

I could believe Casey didn't kill Caylee. But I can't believe any mother would wait a month before reporting her missing. That is unforgivable. That is inexusable and criminal.

I wonder if GA and CA will be allowed to stay in there during JB opening arguements. Because if he states that Casey was molested I am not sure either of her parents could contain themselves.
