Casey Anthony Civil Trials Discussion

Oh, I get the backlash against the employer thing. But, what's the excuse for not getting a GED? Especially if it was part of the parole agreement?
Oh, just looking back, I was responding to Kurby. :)

OK, I have HLN on, and they're showing clips from "The Parade Of Conrad Murray's Girlfriends." Interesting characters. YOUNG 'uns. And one hisses. "Yessssssssssss" And one is an "actress" who spends her time maintaining her "instrument" (herself). Had I known this would be so interesting... lol

I know she isn't the most employable person in the world but even some of the easiest jobs in the world require adults to have their GED or HS diploma. They really need to force this issue with her especially since it seems that she can't use the excuse of intensive therapy as it appears she hasn't received any.

Doesn't CM or Jose need a cleaning lady?

Are they making Casey take drug tests as part of her probation? You mean that the state probation officer is taking Casey's word that she didn't drink in excessive? Just like she had nothing to do with her daughter's death?

I think if Casey showed up to see her probation officer, she'd be sure not to be under the influence of alcohol. Drugs, I don't know...do they test for drugs?

I was just wondering about this...knew it was October, just not sure when. Is this still written in stone, or has it been changed? Wonder if, as the time approaches, the jurors will fight the release.
Perry's 12-page ruling said the names of 14 of the 17 jurors will remain private until Oct. 25.

Oh, yeah ... a real parade of winners. The "actress" you're talking about is Nicole Alvarez. By "actress who maintains her instrument", what Nicole really means is that she was a dancer at the Crazy Horse in Vegas. She looked like she was really into knowing that she was on TV and part of this trial. She was all excited and "raring to go"! It seemed like she was hoping to be discovered by some Hollywood Producer!

It appears that Conrad was quite the sugar daddy! Why else would these women be into him?

How is she living ? Doesnt she pay probation 20 a month? Someone is paying her living expenses.

Well, isn't she special. She's definitely loving the limelight.

Casey can surely earn $20/month herself, under the table, so to speak. ;)

I have workmen at the house and I'm trying to stay out of their way, and after about 200 games of solitaire, I decided to check in on CA:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/jose-baez-grossly-incompetent-cadaver-dogs-search-missing/story?id=14686061

By JOHN QUINONES (@JohnQABC) and ROXANNA SHERWOOD Oct. 7, 2011

The defense attorney for Gary Giordano believes it is a waste of time for Aruban authorities to just now bring in cadaver dogs to search for the remains of his client's missing travel companion.

"I think it's grossly incompetent for cadaver dogs two plus months after the fact," Jose Baez told ABC's John Quinones. "Whatever scent of decomposition they expected to find is long gone."

Robyn Gardner, 35, has been missing from Aruba since Aug. 2. The man she was vacationing with, Gary Giordano, 50, has been detained there for five weeks now, not charged with any crime but being held for questioning.

Cadaver dogs were brought in from Holland last week to search the Aruban shores for forensic evidence and any sign of Gardner's remains. Giordano has denied any wrongdoing and claimed Gardner was swept out to sea while the two were snorkeling.

Baez earned nationwide fame after successfully defending Casey Anthony, the Florida woman found not guilty of murdering her 2-year-old daughter. He talked about his defense plan for Giordano's case.

"It's unfortunate what's happening to him and it angers me, which is why I got involved," Baez said.

There has been no welcome party for Baez in Aruba. For a nation that depends on tourism, a big shot attorney and another missing woman are unhelpful.

While Giordano has not been charged, questions have been raised about his possible involvement in Gardner's disappearance. Perhaps the most troubling is the $1.5 million travel insurance policy that Giordano had purchased for Gardner the day before they left for Aruba. He named himself as the only beneficiary.

Just days after Gardner went missing, Giordano called American Express Travel four times, asking about how he could redeem his policy. Police documents show that the American Express representative who took one of the calls said Giordano sounded excited, like he had "just won the lottery." The representative was so troubled by his behavior that the person called the police, but Baez called foul on the evidence and reiterated that Giordano's other attorney, Michael Lopez, had advised his client to call AmEx.

"I think if they're going to release the transcripts they should release the audio and then we can really hear for ourselves," he said.

Giordano can be legally held for questioning until Oct. 31, at which time he could be allowed to go back to the United States, unless a judge decides there is evidence produced to continue to keep him there.

The solicitor general of the island is now saying he plans to ask for an extension to keep Giordano there longer. Authorities are not convinced he is telling the whole truth about exactly what happened to Gardner.

From representing Casey Anthony to Gary Giordano, it would seem that Baez is attracted to high-profile, difficult cases. For now he remains defined by the case he hopes will eventually fade into a list of big wins.

"I look at each case as a challenge," Baez said. "You can't do this with passion if you don't have a sincere desire to help people."

Baez, seemingly, came out of nowhere. Born in New York and raised by a single mom on the tough streets of Little Havana, Miami, Baez was a high school dropout who got married at age 17.

"My girlfriend had gotten pregnant and I thought that growing up without a father was something that I had gone through...it was not something that I wanted my child to have to go through," he said.

His mother, who cleaned houses for a living, moved the family to Miami so that Baez and his three sisters could attend public school across the street from their house. After dropping out of high school, Baez earned his G.E.D., became a black belt in martial arts and joined the Navy. His service led him to college and eventually to law school. To this day, he still credits his mother for his success.

"I wouldn't be here if it weren't for her," Baez said. "I don't mean that in just the literal sense. I mean that in various ways. I think she just made so many sacrifices. She was a mom, dad, brother, sister, confidante, best friend."

Amanda Knox is on the cover of this week's People Magazine.

I bet Casey's PO'd!

And just wait til she sells her story to People for zillions of dollars while Casey sits on a whole lotta nada!

:thumbsup2 I think I'll buy the Amanda Knox edition. :)

I have a subscription, so I get 'em regardless of who is on the cover. If they paid CA for an interview w/them, I'd read everything else except that interview ... I would rip it out and throw that part away!

Amanda Knox, however, I will read. I still think that she knows more than she leads us to believe .......

"It's unfortunate what's happening to him and it angers me, which is why I got involved," Baez said.

Angers him? Really? Please, he chases money and fame.. that's it.

"I look at each case as a challenge," Baez said. "You can't do this with passion if you don't have a sincere desire to help people."

A passion for fame! He could give a rat's a%% about helping people. Yeah ok, Bozo the altruistic idiot...

Maryann, how is that redecorating coming along?

I put on the Conrad Murray trial on today. I couldn't watch, it was rather boring. Made me miss Jeff and Linda! One thing about Miss CA, she sure put on an interesting trial!

While I don't know anything about Little Havana--by your report...I'm guessing I can feel very safe driving through should I ever happen across it one day.

Casey Anthony case: Casey answers few questions, takes Fifth in civil-suit deposition

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news...y-anthony-gives-depo-20111008,0,6946795.story

By David Breen, Orlando Sentinel 10:34 a.m. EDT, October 8, 2011

A disguised Casey Anthony, described as angry but composed, was deposed this morning in the defamation suit filed against her by Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez.

She answered few questions and her attorney repeatedly invoked Anthony's Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, according to attorney John Morgan, who represents Gonzalez.

Morgan asked the questions of Anthony via video link from Morgan &

Morgan's downtown offices. Anthony's location has not been revealed.

Anthony answered general questions, such as was she present during her trial and was she in court for her attorney's opening statement, Morgan said. But more specific questions were met with the Fifth Amendment assertion by Casey's Orlando-based attorney, Charles Greene.

A call to Greene seeking comment was not immediately returned.

Casey wore a Philadelphia Philllies baseball cap, "gigantic sunglasses" and what appeared to be a long, dark-haired wig during the deposition, Morgan said.

"She did not want to be there," Morgan said in response to a question about her demeanor, but she was "composed" and "courteous."

"Deep breathing, nostrils flaring," Morgan said of her comportment.
The questioning lasted about 45 minutes, Morgan said.

"We didn't want to turn this into a 2-hour circus," he said. "We asked enough questions and got her to invoke the Fifth enough times that we feel we got enough to take a motion to the judge to compel her to answer these questions.

"We didn't want to go bit by bit through [case details such as] the trunk and the chloroform; that would have served no purpose."

Morgan plans to file a motion in the next week or so asking a judge to compel Anthony to answer his questions.

As for Gonzalez, Morgan described Anthony's invocation of her name as her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie's nanny as "a scar on her life and on her soul probably until the day she dies."

When Caylee was first reported missing in mid-July 2008, Anthony told authorities that a nanny named Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez had taken the child. This prompted massive searches and attempts to track down the nanny, who never materialized.

The defamation suit against Casey Anthony was filed by Fernandez-Gonzalez after she was sought out during the investigation into Caylee's disappearance.

Anthony, 25, was acquitted in July of the major charges against her, including first-degree murder, in connection with Caylee's death. She was convicted of four counts of lying to law enforcement.

Morgan said he supported the decision to hold the deposition via video, given public outcry over Anthony's acquittal and concerns about her safety.

Given those security fears, he said of Anthony, "whether she ever has to come face to face with me or Zenaida Gonzalez, I would doubt it."

I think in Florida--invoking the fifth only helps her to not reveal what is incriminating--but it can be used against her, unlike in a criminal case.

Sure is, to your Baez statement.
