Caryn and Mark PJ- SBP/LSS/PI >>>>>>AND WE'RE OFF<<<<<<

I also think the cocoa brown would look great, it goes very nicely with your dress. I do think the pink would be too much w/the color of your dress. And congrats on the honeymoon news, thats awesome!
I am concerned though, I was planning on doing the rose pink too, but I thought it was alot lighter. I don't want it to be like you said, bubble gum pink. I wonder how to make it lighter, like a pale pink. hmmmm.
Good luck with the next time you do it!

YAY! You finally did it! I love the pink!! I'm totally gonna do mine blue, but I think I need to get some test crinolines off ebay first. I think you should go for the tan, it'll compliment the color well. What if you put the pink crinoline in one of the brown dyes that you dont use, just to see what happens?

Love that you dyed the crinoline and I love the pink but you are right that it is not a good fit for your dress. I looked back in your report and I believe your girls are wearing Truffle color. It would be great to match your crinoline to that color.

Rather then purchasing more crinoline's why don't you go to a fabric store and purchase a few yards of netting and different color dyes. It will not give you a complete picture but if you dye enought to go around the bottom of your dress you would get an idea of what it looks like peaking out from under your dress.

Linda

I love the pink! but I get what your are saying about the colour not going with your dress. I personally think the tan is too close to the dress color to really stand out... I am assuming thats what you wanted since you are dying it. I would do the chocolate brown. Maybe test all three? I don't know how many extra you have to play with.

i have 2 extra's...i'll do some more tests this week!

My vote is for the cocoa brown... the tan might be too close and the dark brown might be too dark :)

Eee that's awesome about your honeymoon! You must be sooo excited! :goodvibes

thanks for voting! i've never been on a cruise and i am so excited!!!

i bet if you used half the dye in the bottle that it would be much better...i'm almost sure of it...

the test crinnies are great...and they're so cheap!

i did purchase a whole bunch of colored tulle to give me a general idea of how it would look, that's how i chose the color/shades of dye...it was actually very helpful!!! the ladies at joann's thought i was NUTS for dying my crinnie, but oh well...

thank you all for your much needed opinions!!! i'll keep you updated on my crinnie coloring process...

next up---garter choices and my 4th pair of shoes...

Wow that's PINK! Yeah, that's totally not the color I had in mind when you first mentioned pink. I am sad that it didn't work out. Since you a probably not going to use it now, is there something else you could try? Maybe you could throw it in the washer again with a little bit of bleach. Perhaps that would lighten it?

I agree with everyone else here, if you are going to do brown - the cocoa brown is the best.

Good luck!

I agree with that... I used the powder/box dye, but I think using 1/2 of the liquid dye would give you a softer pink.

I vote for the cocoa brown, I think it will accent your BM's dresses nicely. Your crinoline won't show much, but when it peeks out it will look nice with the truffle dresses.

I'm so glad you finally took the dying plunge! It's really not too bad, except for the fact that the crinoline does weigh a TON when it soaking wet! Now to find the perfect color...

Congrats on the honeymoon as well! A cruise and 2 weeks in Miami sounds very nice!!

Caryn,
I love the pink, but I think if you're not comfortable with it you should try another color. I went to the rit dye website and there is a color mixing chart with some "swatches" if you will of how to get certain colors. This may help you out some. The site is here:

Hi C ... I liked the pink .. tell my FBIL that I like it and that you should use it. I agree that it is very PINK but you love pink and i think you should use it. Lin- i like the mcdonalds idea ... would be a good way to speed up the eating process while we are at the wedding. Im prob flying in wednesday as ill prob have to work monday and tuesday - Im trying right now to get the whole week off but Ill see what plans arise toward the beg of the month. Anywho, I have so much to do right now in regards to life so i say keep teh pink and yay for mcdonalds!!!

Caryn, I liked the pink, but I agree that it would look better against a white dress. In fact, that's exactly what Gwen Stefani had for her wedding dress. I think the cocoa brown will go best with your dress and our dresses. So I'd probably use that. I also agree with the pp who suggested that you get some white tulle and then you can dye it several colors. That way you won't be surprised next time if a color comes out weird. What are you going to do with the pink crinoline now? I guess you could wear it with a corset top and be a can-can girl for halloween :rotfl2: Everything seems to be coming along nicely.

thanks! the pink was a bit of a surprise, it looks hilarious hanging in my yellow bathroom...

yes, i'm very very excited about the honeymoon! i was kind of depressed that we weren't going to have one, but now we are! yay!!!

yes, that website is quite informative, i've been thinking about those combinations all day long...

megan, i do like pink, but not with that dress...see below for pink crinnie plans...

gwen's dress faded to hot pink at the bottom, i'm not sure what her crinnie looked like, or if she even had one...

as far as what i am going to do with the pink nightmare, i'm going to wear it on halloween with my hair all curly and a tank top and pretend that i'm sarah jessica parker in the opening credits of sex and the city. see, no time wasted at all and still put to good use!

DECISIONS DECISIONS---first off i have to thank my aunts jeanne and judi for their advice on the crinnie color, this has been a tough choice for me (although, not as much as the shoe drama that i will describe later on). I originally was going to dye the crinnie tan, i liked the way it looked with the color of the dress, but it wasn't SPECIAL...so then after much consideration, a trip to hobby lobby and a look at the rit color website, thanks BayouPrincess :thumbsup2 , i'm thinking that cocoa brown might be the way to go...i'm thinking this for 2 reasons, 1. jaxteach is right, the crinnie won't show too much under the dress and 2. i think i might add the wine color to the cocoa brown color to make it look more like truffle, OR i might just dye the other two cocoa brown and see how it looks, then add a slight bit of wine to it...what do we think about that? i'm still a little concerned about the cocoa brown, not all of the slip dyes that color, really only the net does, since my dress isn't white, and the satin part of the slip is, i'm concerned that it'll look weird, of course, i could always cut that part shorter so you won't see it at all...i have my first fitting on thursday, so i need to get my crinnies dyed for real tomorrow...

SHOES
i now have 4 pairs of shoes...1 for the ceremony and 3 to choose from for the reception. df is going to KILL me. i'm supposed to be on shoe lockdown, NO MORE SHOES until after the wedding (then it's time to buy cruise shoes :))...oh well. so here's my 3 choices...

original reception shoes
F05_Marissa.jpg

2nd pair i bought in nyc (they were $20, i couldn't resist...)
100_0260.jpg

and the third pair i bought last night-before you start laughing at me, i casually showed df a picture of them and he thought they were, "hot." they also remind me of the shoes one of my aunt's wore for her wedding and i think they'll be cool if i get them dyed to match the dress...
product_imagephp.jpg

so i have three pairs of shoes. oh well. i'll just take them all with me and decide which one i'm in the mood to wear on that day, OR i'll wear them all and keep changing throughout the day...

GARTER
so, i'm not a big garter fan...i'm not throwing anything and i don't want to be felt up in public, but for once in my life i get to wear a garter for real...so here's my inspiration...
isleofcapri.jpg

i decided that $45 for that one was outrageous, so i'll make my own, i bought lace-ish stuff that looks just like that, i also bought tiffany blue crochet thread and i'm thinking that i might just crochet myself one, then i can have exactly what i want...i think i might make a crocheted garter to go under the lace to make it look like less of a handkerchief (sp?).

INVITATIONS
i feel like i'm going to lose my mind, i just can't wait until they're all done and sent out and the rsvp's are on their way to my parents house. they are SO annoying. i'm with what kristen said in her pj, i would GLADLY pay someone to just do this for me. i need to just buckle down and get them done.

WEDDING T-SHIRTS
i too was having printer issues, i'm not too technical, and df got a color laser printer, i bought ink jet paper and used it once in there >oops< and it got all this gook in the printer, so that's why i don't have my stupid invitations done yet, anyway, i finally found t shirt transfer paper for laser printers, so i'm going to start that asap!!!

GUEST BOOK
i'm going to order it from guestbookstore.com and i think i'm going to get this cover
champagne_swirl_large.jpg

i think the color is a bit boring, so i bought a small pearl christmas frame ornament to add to it...
we're going to do the customized memories pages and i'm going to buy colored acid free markers for everyone to write with!

this post is entirely too long, good night!

I vote for shoe #2. It's classic.

You're having your RSVP's sent to your parents house? I couldnt decide what to do so I'm having them sent to me in FL, but I put my parents names on it.

when i had the invitations printed, i had a stressful full-time job and didn't want to deal with rsvps...now i'm not working, but they're already printed. i thought about changing the envelopes, i might just do that...i'm not too thrilled with how they came out of my printer, i might use the martha stewart address labels that i was originally going to do...I HATE INVITATION STRESS!!!

Caryn,

I love shoe #1! Very simple and pretty. Where is it from? Shoe #2 is very pretty too. It looks kind of like an off white/tanish color. I think it will match your dress nicely.

Caryn seriously... how many pairs of shoes do you really need for a 5 hour event. I say you wear the first pair and bring the second pair as a special pair of shoes to wear on the honeymoon. I think the idea of wearing the crinoline for halloween and being Carrie is great! And I don't think I would have the RSVPs being sent to Mom and Dad's house. It just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Invitations are definitely not fun. I've temporarily stopped being a perfectionist and I'm ready to be done with them. DF had to drag me out of Michaels today because I wanted to buy ribbon to decorate the outside of the "pocket"!

I agree with Lindsay. I definitely saw a disaster in the making when I thought of sending them to my parents. If you're unhappy with how they turned out and you have some spare time then do the Martha labels. It'll be easier to have them yourself than having to work over the phone with your parents. However, I cant blame you if you want to just send them and never think about them again :thumbsup2

Oh I gotta tell you, I was in Wal-Mart today with DF and I bought blue Rit to dye my crinoline. He was absolutely horrified! It was the cutest thing, but I seriously thought he was going to start a fight with me in the middle of Wally world. He absolutely can't understand why I would want to dye my "underwear" (as he calls the crinnie) when I have an entirely white outfit, and nobody will ever see my "underwear" anyways. :rotfl:

they are david's bridal, they were super cheap and i am getting the purse to match them!

i agree...read on for invitation drama...

so, i had another bridal meltdown today (they seem to be coming ever 2 weeks or so...which would mean that i have 7.5 more meltdowns until the wedding...ARGH)...i FREAKED out about my invitations, went looking for new invitations and finally ended up just buying new envelopes to give them a different look, new responder card envelopes so that they go to my house instead of my parents and i'm going to print out reservation information cards out of stardream (fantastic paper that i LOVE). so that's done with. i'm also going to print the martha stewart labels for address labels.

df ix-nayed the garter idea, i was crocheting last night and he freaked out when i said i was making a garter, who knew? he HATES them...so there's that!

i've been trying to order my guest book, but the site isn't working...not fun! this is the one that we're going to get...
champagne_swirl_large.jpg

very simple, but i'm going to add the small picture frame to it...

our cake server set came in today and it is FANTASTIC!!! i love it! it's PERFECT!!!

i also bought stuff to make thank you notes...i bought a 50 pack of beautiful assorted cards from michaels, i'm going to add a velum cover to them and i bought martha stewart "thank you" rub ons to put on there somewhere...they were cheap, .50 each!

and now to the biggest news of all...

CRINNIE COLOR ACHIEVED!!!
it suddenly occurred to me that i could make it match the bridesmaids dresses perfectly...it took a lot of work, 4 things of rit dye, but it was totally successful...i freaked out at first because it was REALLY purple...i looked on the rit site and saw that you could make burgundy out of 1/2 cup dark brown and 1 cup of wine, i switched that up and it ended up really purple...so i used two more packs of dark brown and voila! perfection!!! here's the pics!
up close color of crinnie
100_0270.jpg

here's the hoop skirt and crinnie together...
100_0271.jpg

it looks tie dyed in this pic, which to be honest, it sort of is up top, i think the bottom didn't photo too well...
the next test is to see how they look under the dress...first fitting on thurs!

you know what kristen, i've just gotten over the fact that MEN WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND, but they do appreciate when it's all said and done. mine almost murdered me when he found out i went to michaels again today (because not only do i have to deal with invitations, i have thank you notes now to worry about-these are fun and easy though...). df actually liked my new crinnie/hoop color, he walked into my house today as it was drying in the kitchen and said it turned out really well! who knew!!! as posted above, i'm hoping that the invitation drama will soon be done with...

The new crinoline color is very rich! I like it :)

I love the new color! Its perfect! I was playing on the Rit website and I think I want to dye mine aquamarine. So I need to get some hunter green! Did you use the same measurements it said on the website? I have no idea how many pounds of fabric is in a crinoline.

I dont understand the whole hoop skirt thing. I was looking on ebay last night and it looks like the 3 hoop skirt comes with all this extra fabric to make it fuller. Where did you get the plain 3 hoop skirt? Was the super full too big with the hoop underneath? I'm gonna go nuts today and get a bunch to experiment on :)
