Caryn and Mark PJ- SBP/LSS/PI >>>>>>AND WE'RE OFF<<<<<<

Oh boy, I was a two-dress-bride as well so I completely understand your meltdown. I had several. I bought (what I thought was) my dream dress and then realized later (when I couldn't return it) that I didn't like it all and didn't feel comfortable in it. DH was very understanding, although I know he wasn't happy about having to dish out more money for a second dress!

I ended up going to every DB in the area, tried on 20-something new dresses, didn't like any of those, and finally found a dress I fell in love with online. I managed to find it nearby, ordered it, and it was the perfect dress for me. DH agreed and said it was totally worth paying extra for :thumbsup2

I really like the white tulle dress you tried on. It really compliments your figure, but it's all about what YOU like best. If you don't feel comfortable in it, don't get it. Try the bigger crinoline and see if that solves your pickup skirt problems. Good luck!!

I just caught up on your PJ. Everything looks great so far!!! I think you look beautiful in both dresses but like others have said you need to go with what is comfortable for you. You dont want to have to stress about it your whole wedding day! I'm getting a little weird about my dress right now too but I'm hoping it goes away ;)

By the way, I also did the college program in 2002 but I was there from Jan-May so I probably just missed you!

Why dont you go see someone who specializes in altering wedding dresses and ask them how it can be fixed. Maybe if they take a bit off the bottom it'll change the look of the dress completely.

Ps. All this talk about dyeing crinoline is making me want to dye mine blue. Although I have no idea why... there's so many layers of my dress that you'd never be able to see the crinoline :)

So I was with my sister during her meltdown. Might I add C, thanks for posting those LOVELY pictures of me. Anywho, I am in total favor of the lightgold dress. I love that dress and think that it looks gorgeous on my sister. The other dress, whereas it is lovely as well, I dont think looks as good. I def dislike the top of the dress and the bottom is very large and makes a TON of noise. I also tried to bring up points to caryn that she did NOT want to wear white and that dress only comes in white. I also wanted to point out to caryn that her DF hates tulle. Also, my sister and I will be wearing pull ups and it would look nice if we matched (even though its not a staple). The dress is beautiful on my sister and the other dress is goign to cost more to send down to disney, will prob cost more to have it pressed because the bottom is very large, all of these extra costs ontop of the fact that your paying for another dress. I def think that she should wait to get the other slips that are bigger and try on the dress with those under it. When we were at Davids Bridal she tried on a big dress slip and liked the way the gold dress looked with it under it. I also agree with Kristen that she can try to alter the bottom of the dress and see how it works out. I would hate for her to buy another dress and spend the money and then realize that her original dress was the best choice for her and that sh dislikes the second dress. I am a firm believer of initial instincts. I think caryn bought that dress for a reason and loved it initially and maybe the stress is just getting to be too much. Ok well i have to go to work but I hope C, that you make whatever decision is right for you. If you love that dress, go buy that dress, but make sure that you try other options first so that you dont regret anything. just remember, in 20 years, you have to look back at your pictures and still love everything about them. think of what we say about mommy and daddy, we make fun of their dresses (oh were they bright and floppy) but mommy still says to this day that she loved them and still does. So in the end thats whats important C.

i think you look better in the dress you actually bought. I love the other dress but theres just something about it but go with your heart!

Caryn
I think you should go with the dress you originally picked out. I think the second dress is nice, but not as nice as the first. I'm not in love with the top on the second dress, it has the potential to create bulk in your stomach and I'm sure you don't want that. And think of all the stuff that will get caught in that tulle skirt... (leaves, straws etc) And I also think that Megan is right that it will look nice for all of us to have pick up skirts. Maybe your dress is just too long... oh, and another thing.... you don't need a third pair of shoes for the wedding. Two is more than sufficient.

Honestly, I am completely jealous of how good you look in both dresses. Gorgeous!

I have to chime in and say that I like the light gold one better. The other one with tulle that you recently tried on is great and it looks amazing on you, but it's not my favorite. Plus, with all of the other stuff you have planned, the tulle one does not fit into your wedding as nice as the light gold one does. While you do not necessarily need to match your BMs, I think you all having pick-up skirts will provide unity without being too matchy. Maybe you should play with the Dress Your Wedding tool on DB's website.

I feel like the top of the tulle one is so unique and fasion forward that you could look back in a decade or so and regret it. The light gold one has just enough elements to make it fun (the fact that it's a pick-up skirt and it's light gold) in order to break with tradition without being untraditional.

And I have to say that the light gold does really flatter your skin tone and such. Stark white can be so harsh against people's skin. I was unwilling to wear anything besides white because of our color scheme choices. I kind of wish I would have explored other options. But, I had enough trouble picking my dress, so more options could have caused more problems.

All in all, your sister is right. It's all about you loving your dress and how you feel wearing it. Trying all of these slip options could really help. After you have done that, make a visit to an alterations department and describe your concerns. It is quite amazing what a seamstress can do. A little lift here or a tuck there could really fix the problem you are decribing. You are going to be a beautiful bride no matter what. The photos of you and your DF at your engagement party are enough to tell me that you will glow on your wedding day. You are in love and celebrating that among family and friends at Disney. Nothing can stand in the way of that kind of magic.

thanks! i would like the tulle better in ivory, but i'm not a fan of ivory either...you're right, i need to continue to play with the david's bridal wedding party thing...

good call on the stuff getting caught in it...i didn't think of that. i already bought the third pair of shoes...i'll post a pick once i unpack. i have a solution for the cake like appearance of the pick ups...see below in a minute.

you're very kind! thank you!

you and disneysweetie are right, the top of that tulle dress will end up looking dated.

you should dye it blue! it's for you and overall a very personal decision (it's underwear after all!!)! i find that when i sit in my dress, you see the crinoline a little bit, i think it'll look great with a bit of color!

i feel myself getting weirder and weirder everyday about this wedding, hopefully as the holidays approach this will go away!

i was there from may 02-dec 02 for my cp and i worked at the bw!!! where did you work?

you're lucky your dh was ok with the extra expense, mine is not...you looked fantastic on your wedding day! what did you do with the other dress?

wow, this is going to be a long post...thank you all for the kind words and advice. i wonder if it's normal to go through this much of a bridal meltdown. should i expect more of this? hope not...anyway, i'm home now!!! some great things happened while in nj, my grandmother gave me a beautiful blue stone ring to wear on my wedding day as my something blue! how fantastic, i'll post pics of it soon! i haven't unpacked yet...

and some more...

i think i posted this previously, but i'm going to make sugar cookie wedding cakes, here's a pic, they are so adorable! i can't wait to start on them, i just need to find those clear boxes!
marthasugarcookiecakes.jpg

so as i got home a whole bunch of packages from ebay arrived! i got my antenna toppers!
100_0223.jpg

and the shirts for my sisters and i! this pic isn't great, but since the shirts black i don't think it'll ever photograph well. i love the bows, and i'm not normally a bow girl!
100_0224.jpg

here's a pic of the iron on's i got from ebay! they're huge and look GREAT! i am so happy with them!
100_0225.jpg

back to the dress drama-i showed df a picture of the tulle, he said it was boring, but he liked the top. he said that he didn't think there was anything special about the tulle and that though he hasn't seen dress #1, that light gold is good, especially since i'll be more tan in jan than i am now (gotta love darque tan). so that solves it. i'm sticking with the light gold. i bought yet another crinoline and petticoat (making the total count even with jaxteach, i now own 4). i'm going to dye both of them brown and hope that the hoops make the pick ups look less "cake like."

so there we go. that's enough for now, it's pizza hut time!

Whew! I am so glad you decided to stick with the light gold dress. And I am glad that you are feeling better about it.

I love those wedding cake sugar cookies. I've thought about baking those myself. I just don't think my versions would look as nice as Martha Stewart's. Frosting is messy. I'm sure mine would be messy. But they would still be yummy. I think I'm going to stick with my brownies and cocoa cones favors.

For inexpensive clear boxes, check out paper mart: http://www.papermart.com/templates/83-0-80.htm#GO_83082

thanks for the box site...i'm going to try to use white chocolate or fondant (uck) instead of icing...we'll see how it works out.

I love the cookie cakes! and I'm glad too that you're sticking with the gold dress, its very elegant and should be perfect for Disney!

What's the difference between a crinoline and a petticoat?

the crinoline is the big slip that you wear with your dress, the petticoat has hoops in it, i'm hoping it'll keep the shape of my skirt so i don't end up looking like a cake...

The sugar cookie cakes are awesome! I love that idea! I'm glad you decided to go with dress #1. I have put myself on dress restriction. I'm not allowed to look at anything else until after the wedding ;)

I worked at Caseys in the Magic Kingdom on my college program.

i can't find a darned caligrapher in houston because of the holidays and our invitations need to go out in the next 2-3 weeks

Hey Caryn! I'm usually a lurker around here [my DFTW is SOOOO faraway LOL] but I know of a GREAT calligrapher in NJ. My cousin used her for her wedding and her invitations were beautiful. The price was so low[for 180 inner and outer envelopes the price was ~$85] and her work was fabulous! Her name is Carmella Mazzarelli and her number is (856) 428-2543 (I hope it's not against forum rules to post phone numbers). The $85 included Fed Ex overnight shipping by the way. Her prices are a steal!

HTH! And by the way, everything looks wonderful!

thanks for the contact, i'm going to call her on monday!

I think I worded that a little funny. It was 90 sets, 180 envelopes in total. Each set had an inner and outer envelope. I just reread my post and thought it sounds a bit weird.

:headache:

i have allergies. which is not fun. it's also the reason that i am sitting home alone on a saturday night updating my planning journal. it's not that i have no life, i really do, df owns a night club for goodness sake, i just feel like poop. so anyway, i was inspired by another thread on here encouraging us disbrides to scrapbook our pj's...an excellent idea, so i cut and pasted the entire thing into a word file. in it's original form it was well over 120 pages! isn't that incredible!?! with a little editing, it is currently standing at 81 pages, though i kept the pics in. i think i'm just going to get them developed and add them to my scrapbook in true picture form, not printed on regular paper...i MIGHT get really nice thick paper (ie: resume paper) and get this book spiral bound. i really like that all of my thoughts are in one place, i think it would be neat for my children to be able to see how i went through this process (and to see how supportive aunt's lindsay & megan are). not that i have kids yet, but i will-someday!

i was pj surfing (old pj's from last year mostly) and i found a very cool guest book site. www.guestbookstore.com that i'm going to order from. we were originally going to do the bw pic, but we're not anymore. my mother brought up a good point that 1. we don't want to ruin our beloved luna park pool pic and 2. we probably aren't going to want people's comments on our wall 24/7. both valid, both true, so i've been on a book search and i finally found one! so exciting! i love that the pages are organized for the guests to fill out and you get the pick out the cover that you like, i like the white chocolate, the victorian and the maraschino...what do you think? i also think the price on this is pretty good. i was going to go buy a martha stewart one that was $80, but that was just a scrapbook and it was HUGE, like 18x18...so this is so much better...at least it's one less craft for me to do...

we are currenlty fighting the name battle, i don't want to change mine (he didn't offer to change his...) and now he's mad. so i think that i'm not going to legally change it for awhile (this becomes a true pain in the butt when you own property), but i'll still call myself by my married name. this leads me to my point, i don't know how it is supposed to appear on the cover of our guest book! the site shows sarah & fred smith (or something random), but i thought it was supposed to be fred & sarah smith...confusing. i could really make df mad and put my birth name on there...

i think that my crinoline's and petticoats are in, which is amazing since i ordered them THIS WEEK. i have to get them at the post office as they are delivery confirmation! so exciting!!! i'm going to dye them this week and start on my martha stewart cookies!

have a good weekend everyone!

I am going through the name change debate myself. I never had any intentions of changing my name at any point in my life. I will turn 30 on our wedding day and I've sort of grown attached to my name. DF thinks his family will be insulted if I don't. He is an only child so I understand that. I'm a teacher so I think I will keep my last name professionally and legally change my last name to DF's. Or I might become hyphenated. :confused3 I've gotta figure this out!

I have made all of our wedding things say Jaclyn & Dan... I'm not sure how that is supposed to work.

I love that guest book site! I had already purchased a scrapbook to make my guest book when I found it so I'm using some of the ideas to make my own version.

Horray! The crinolines have arrived! That seller has super fast shipping. Have fun dying your slips! I have to dye my niece's soon. The biggest tip is to immerse the entire slip in the clear un-dyed water in the washer before doing anything or else the dye will be splotchy. I didn't do that with 1 of mine and if you look up close you can see it's not uniform over the entire garment. Good luck! I can't wait to see your results!
