Hi Everyone,

I know we don't know exactly when Cars Land will open in 2012, but has anyone heard any estimates? Just trying to decide whether we should wait an extra year as we are coming from Australia.

TIA :goodvibes

Too far out even for good rumors.:) DLR tries hard to leverage these types of things for summer promotion. It would be inconceivable to me for CarsLand to open after say June 20, 2012. Most likely it will be early June or maybe late May. We will be out there in 2012 and to be safe will plan it for July or early August.

They have moved the Cars Meet & Greet to the new entrance of CarsLand.
Lightning has been made over with a new hood logo (Hudson Hornet) and rear wing.

Interesting, I wonder if the spoiler is because he will be doing a little Tokyo Drift in the next movie.

I've been watching the progression on the construction and feel that some of the Carsland will looks really finished this summer and we will be teased looking at it for almost a year before it opens.

Thanks Hydroguy! We were planning on July 2012 so hopefully that will fit in. :goodvibes

From an aussie to an aussie, we usually go in may as done in prevoius years, we go aagin in may 2012, but plz remember since u want to go in july that is in the middle of summer and a lot od schools are out for summer vacation

Ok sounds good thanks Hydroguy , I was in the same dilemma wondering when to book our stay well we aren't coming from very far Northern California we weren't sure to book in either late mate early June or first week of August ..it's even less expensive to go the last days of May into the first week of June about a $600 dollar difference and thats at the DLH I can't believe that practically every good neighbor hotel is booked that far out WOW .

Looking at the CROWDS in everyone's pictures this summer, I'm not sure if we'll enjoy a trip NEXT summer although we really want to get back to the parks next summer. We like to go in Feb/Mar for lower crowds and super enjoy those trips. The wall to wall people I'm seeing in the pictures right now really scare me - my family would not be happy with these kinds of crowds. As much as we want to go next summer, we may need to wait even longer to see all the new stuff.

In 2011 we were there May 30 - June 3. I personally didn't think the crowds were horrible - even with Little Mermaid and Star Tours opening. But I guess crowd levels are subjective. The weather was perfect. There was a wonderful breeze all day, sunny and very mild in the evenings. I would consider going at this time again.

I know different folks have different tolerance levels for crowds, but if you stay at a closeby hotel, get to the parks early and take afternoon breaks I have not found summer crowds to be bad at all. They are there but the worst crowds happen when we are by the pool or napping. Early morning and late evening are awesome times to visit.

I definitely hear you on that one I already booked for Aug. 1-10 but am seriously thinking about going sooner or way later maybe in Nov. I can imagine how the crowds are going to be because of cars land and summer vacationing in general.

Yeah I hear you on that one I definitely might just modify our current reservation to end of May beggining of June not sure if Cars Land will be complete but if not that's ok we will just see it in 2013 after the ooooo's and aawwwwssss's have diminished a bit.:cheer2:

If we are able to go next year, we would prefer the fall. Last trip to DL was 3-4 years ago in Sept. and high 80s was a bit much for us some days.

When would be a good time in the fall 2012 when all the new attractions are open (hopefully avoid the big crowds - after kids are in school). Oh, and we don't want to wait until Dec.

Which is better, crowd level (with all the new stuff) and nice high 70s - low 80s temps?

Oct. or Nov?

Thanks!

Here is weather data:

October is patchy for crowds because of Halloween and the special parties and things like UEA. Nevember before Thanksgiving week tends to be light on crowds, escept sometimes Veteran's Day gets pretty busy.

October of course is decorated for Halloween. November after about the 11th is decorated for Christmas. Which season do you prefer? I would use that as the guide.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. Right now I can't get the weather link to open - hopefully later.

1) What is UEA?

2) We haven't been to DL in Oct/Nov for years. Do they do big Halloween decorations and/or party nights now like WDW does? The only thing we remember from fall is the Nightmare Before X-mas overlay at the HM.

3) Depending on crowds and weather we would prefer any of Oct. - earlier Nov. - before X-mas decorations go up. Rather not be there when they are taking down/putting up decor in between the two holidays.

So then, it's narrowing it down by crowds (with the new attractions) and weather (which should be okay that time of year). And avoiding large groups, school closure dates and holidays like Veteran's Day.

Thanks for your help!

Try the weather link again. It worked for me but the forum has had some troubles today.

For UEA info see MousePlanet's calendar: http://www.mouseplanet.com/9709/Disneyland_Resort_Update#Events

For Halloween special stuff see Sherry's thread:

Halloween at DLR Superthread - Part 2!!! (thread by Sherry E)

I read somewhere that they are anticipating June 2012, but Disney has not released the actual date yet to my knowledge. My son's first birthday is June 21, 2012. We are going there for his birthday. Our older son will be 5 and is eagerly awaiting the opening. It would be nice if it opened before our arrival. That would be a bummer if it opened after or during (crowds).

Wow, they caught up with WDW when it comes to holiday events. UEA sounds like Jersey Week at WDW.

October would be great but it sounds like every weekend is taken up by the Halloween parties - which we aren't interested in.

Do they take down the Halloween decor overnight like WDW does and then put up the X-mas decor overnight? So then in between, there would be no decor in the parks, correct? I mean, it doesn't take days to clear it all out and put up the other, does it?

Also, when they do the HM overlay, when does that start and end? I thought it was through both seasons, Halloween and X-mas. Is that right? What dates is HM shut down to put on or take off the overlay?

So from the beginning of Nov. before X-mas decor starts would probably work (avoiding Veteran's day). I just would hope it wouldn't be TOO cold in the evenings. If we can go, we'd love to stay at DL Hotel since it has been refurbished and try the new pool and tiki themed restaurant, bar, etc. Hopefully it would not be to cold to swim.

One time years ago we had to buy sweats at DL! Can't remember what month that was but we only packed shorts. We are from the pacific northwest area and packed correctly but a cold wave came in during our trip.

Except that Jersay has 3 times the population of Utah. UAE is barely a blip in a local market with 10 times more people. If it wasn't during the offseason you wouldn't notice.

Not every weekend, usually just Fridays, Friday are already busy and you mostly miss out on 5 park hours, and a full entertainment evening when you avoid the party in DL.

Not quite overnight. It takes a couple weeks and some of the larger decorations can overlap. It takes a while to get Small World ready.

The HM overlay is for both seasons, so it begins with Halloween Season on September 16th, and ends after New Year Day of the Christmas Season.

Maybe, maybe not. Cold is up to your perception. SoCal on any given day is warmer than most of the US so a lot depends on where you are coming from. As you saw the weather can be a little hit or miss if an early winter storms comes through, dropping rain in LA.

BTW

Didn't anyone see the big news on Carsland? Maybe it's eleswhere on the DIS but official word is out on when it opens. In the Quarter 3 revenue report Bob Iger said it is opening in SUMMER of 2012.
