Carrying my Tervis

Kinda timely here, a friend of mine from work sailed out on the Dream yesterday and there were a bunch of signs in and around Cabannas that said "Don't use personal cups". Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Do the theatres have a spot on the armrest to put your drink or are you holding your drink through the show?
On the Dream class ships, yes there are cup holders. On the Magic class the WDT has cup holders, the Buena Vista theater, no.

Well, unless they've changed the signage, it doesn't specifically address "personal cups". But does ask you to use a "fresh" cup for refills:

Well, I was calling it "wasteful" to use a cup (that you could be using to drink out of, and not dirtying up your cup) just fill up your cup and then throw it away.
While it might be wasteful, it's actually considered polite and more sanitary to use a clean cup to fill your refillable mug/cup.

According to him it said not to use personal cups. I asked him to take a pic for me but I won't get it until Monday when he returns.

I would be VERY surprised if it is not use them at all - unless they have stopped selling them in the gift shops too.

Pretty sure he interpreted the sign to mean he couldn't (or was told not to use his personal cup when he ignored the sign) - I have seen more than one person standing in front of those signs utterly clueless that you are allowed to use one of the cruise line cups to fill your own. I've seen it on DCL at all drink fountains and on HAL and RCCL at their water stations. I chalk the lack of problem solving up to vacation brain, giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming intelligence in non-vacation life.

Please post it, when you get it. I'd be interested in seeing it, also.

Will do. He's a pretty intelligent guy so I'd be surprised if he just misread it but anything is possible.

And yes I'd be very surprised too unless there was a special health issue. I'm cruising the dream a week from Monday.

Well, then, you can check it out for us yourself. :teeth: Have a good cruise.

I can't imagine them not letting you use your own cup onboard (but I know to fill with a paper cup) especially since they sell so many different Tervis cups in the shops. They are clearly taking advantage of guests wanting to use their own cups. Tervis being sold onboard is only a few years old.

You're a lot kinder than I am.

I did roll my eyes at one lady this summer on Brilliance who was standing there with her empty water bottle looking at the water station with the sign saying "please do not fill personal bottles directly from the spout" or something similar and when I proceeded to use a cup (and the second water container) to fill my bottle looked at me in surprise and said "Oh! I didn't know you could do that!"

Has anyone tried refilling their personal cup by poking a hole the bottom of a fresh disposable paper cup and using it as a kind of funnel? Fresh cup is the only thing near the dispenser, but you don't have to fill and empty the paper cup several times to fill your Tervis/Hydroflask/whatever.

Depending on how tall the cup you're fill is, there may or may not be enough room for that. And holding it at an angle with this method could be kinda messy. dream 2014 poolside 14087 P1020207 1500.jpg

That phrasing is what I thought I remembered...and why I'm wondering if the person thought that meant you couldn't use your personal cup... Thanks for the pic.

I agree...in order for everything to fit you might not ultimately get that much more...plus it would probably take longer to fill. Funnels always seem to make filling things take longer to me.

Yes, but I would be mindful if there were folks behind me waiting. I've never tried this funnel thing, but it seems like dumping cup after cup into your personal cup might drastically reduce the fizz? #thestruggle

Never noticed an issue with fizz... But maybe that's just me?

I have no idea. Maybe I'm worrying about nothing. My Hydroflask is 24oz, and those cups are 8oz. (I think?), so three cups worth of filling doesn't seem like a huge hassle, I guess.
