I have heard that security lines are rather long. Do you have to stop even if you are just carrying a camera around your neck? I know that all enclosed cases have to be checked, but if the camera is in full view without it's case, does this need to go through security?

Just asking to be prepared! Thanks!

There's a "No pack" express lane. As long as your camera is in plain view and they can tell for sure it's a camera, you should be able to use the express lane. But even when my digital camera is in a simple slip case cover, over 1/2 the time the guard asks to see inside the case to confirm it's a camera.

I have yet to have an experience of long lines at the security stands checking baggage - even when we went for xmas - I gues it is a function of what time of day you go - we were always there first thing

As Geoff_M stated, they have a lane for people with no bags, etc. So, if your camera is around your neck and not in its case you should be able to use this line.

Do fanny packs have to use the long line too? (I am assuming that they do.) And water bottles??

Yes, fanny packs have to go through the security check line. I never take mine off, I just unzip it and hold it open. They usually take a quick glance inside. I have never had them ask me to empty mine.

Security is really not that long. They spend about 10 seconds per guest. There are usually quite a few security guards under each enclosure. Even during summer, we never spent more than 2 minutes in line. They don't really "search" your bags like airport security, they just kind of glance at your belongings.

we were there right after 09/11/01 and security was very tight. I had a 6 mth old with me and they took everything out of the diaper bag, the backpack, etc.

i'm sure it's not that tight now. Even though it was very thorough, i didn't think it took too long.

To be honest, i don't mind tight security. Better safe than sorry.

It's too magical of a place for something terrible to happen.

Right after 9/11, the place was desolate. i felt as if we were the only ones there.

We were there last week and the security lines went super fast...the parks were crowded and we never stood in a line more than a minute at the most. You just have to have all the zippers unzipped and they glance into each compartment extremly fast!!! You never came to a stop.

When we were there in June, I was asked to take off my fanny pack several times. Not a biggie, just to let the OP know. :thumbsup2 DS8 was only asked to take his off once. I guess that's the advantage of only carrying a radio and a granola bar. :lmao:

i went to EMH at Epcot to see the changes to SSE and a couple of other things and I carry multiple lenses on me. just so i could avoid bag check, I left my camera bag in the room and put the other lens I took in my cargo pants pocket. i was able to walk right in, no problem.

Just curios, say you take a backpack & camera case...will they make me take EVERYTHING out of both, I try to be very organized when it comes to things like that, I don't care if they look I just don't want to dump everything out!!

they don't make you take anything out. just open all the pockets and peek inside

If your camera case is small enough, take the camera out and put the camera case in your pocket. You can then walk throo the "no bags" line and put your camera in the case afterwards.
They have always asked us to remove our fanny packs (even the kids), but I've never been asked to take anything out.
Next trip, I am planning on purchasing clear fanny packs and/or backpacks...then they don't even ask you to unzip them.:thumbsup2

If you have a number of things in your bag, use some clear zip-lock bags to help organize them. It goes even quicker if they can see everything, and if you have to take something out, it's easier on you, too. (Last year, I had a guard make me take out the diaper changing pad and open it up so he could check inside it.)

You should be fine going thru the "no bag" line with only a camera and no case. I have finally gotten to the point where i don't need to take a bag into the parks. I use my Passporter Passholder and DH just sticks it in his pocket and we don't have to go thru security. When I do need a bag, I have a see thru backpack that works great and I don't have to zip/unzip anything!
