I'm trying to decide if I want to carry my new digital SLR or just a point and shoot digital camera. Carrying the larger camera means I have to carry a backpack with me.

Are there any rides that won't let me carry a backpack on it?? Maybe Rock n Roll and Tower of Terror?

Are there lockers near those?

Any other tips or advice about carrying the larger camera and backpack??

Thanks!!

When I went in Jan 04, I carried my backpack (well me and my sister took turns). We were allowed to carry it on every ride.

I had my backpack because I was carrying my video cam (which would have fit into my little camera back that I have my snapshot with). It didn't make much of a difference, except with the backpack we were able to carry snacks, sweaters, socks, eye drops, etc with us.

We went in Jan of 05 and I also carried a backpack on all rides and it was just fine. Our family took turns carrying it. I am the mom but had a black backpack and we all shared. Many times it is me that gets all of the extra things to carry but we all shared and it was great. Honestly I carried my new digital in a small case inside the pack to protect it.

Thanks for the question ... I wanted to know as well ... thanks for the answers too. :goodvibes

Took my backpack on all rides including Space Moutain, RnR, ToT, Test Track, and Mission Space. Either have a place to store your bag or your bag could fit in the space beneath you. No inversions where you would lose your bag.

Big hint: Dont take cameras on splash mountain. I found out the hard way. We had a our digital camera in a backpack style bag. Needless to say after the ride the camera was soaked and of no use for the rest of the trip.

We have been able to take camera bags and backpacks on every ride we have tried recently. There are times when it may be a tight fit but we are always able to get everything to fit.

We had a backpack too, and it was much handier than a shoulder bag. We kept two cameras in it (including my BF's large Canon) along with the usual stuff... and Pal Mickey! He worked well with the backpack strap slipped through the loop on his back, so he was resting right beside my arm (on the front).

We had plastic baggies in the backpack to wrap cameras and wallets when we went on a wet ride. On coasters, I put the bag between my feet then stuck my leg through the strap just in case.

Those are all great tips!! I am taking both my video cam and my point and shoot...so I have been pondering the same things! AWESOME QUESTION! :cool1: I need to get a nice backpack now...hehehe...mine is more of a shoulder pack..too small.

we hate carrying anything so i just leave my camera in the room and take it a few days so i'd take the littlest one if it were me ...course now i have no pics to post but oh well..next time maybe i'll be less lazy

i did buy a nice camcorder bag ( walmart, $14, about 10x6x6)that fit my slr & anything else we need( 2 adults no rugrats) and it fit on the rides on the side of the seat, under the bar & around hubby's neck/shoulder, basically under his arm pit eww. worked out fine for our less lazy days. it has a zipper across the top and a flap that goes over the top and velcros...nothing got the least bit damp( didn't do the rapids at ak due to cold weather) or damaged on any thing we took it on. (tt, rnr, tot ect)

My point and shoot is a very small Canon SD400, which i carry in a neoprene case in my pocket. I do carry my sling-style backpack for my camcorder, sunblock, and other essentials. I have had good luck keeping things dry by applying scotchguard to the outside of my backpack. I find the sling to be very comfortable to wear for long periods of time in the park.

DH carries a pretty decant sized camera bag, SLR, a lens or two, a mini camcorder and a travel tripod and he always rides everything(except Splash Mountain) with no problems.

We went to DL in FEB '05. I got a brand new Canon S410 (digital point and shoot) for Christmas so I HAD to bring it. While we were there, it rained 16" in 4 days (so much for the sunshine state!) My camera stayed nice and dry though, even through 3 back to back trips down the rapids! HOW? Well, i kept my camera in a ziplock bag inside my pocket! The small point and shoot cameras are great that way, nice and compact, put it in your pocket and your hands are free! We did bring an Olympus C730 Ultra Zoom on our trip too but left in in the room most days, only brought it to the park for a few hours to take some pictures. So, I guess my suggestion is: BRING BOTH CAMERAS!! Carry the point and shoot with you in your pocket for the majority of the trip and if you see something that you definitely want to capture with the SLR bring that along one day and do a photography tour! Hope that helps a bit! PS: we took 1200 pictures, great memories!

We had a camera bag with us on our last trip for our DSLR, MiniDV Camcorder and a pocket P&S. I carried the camera bag on the first day only (way too much to carry...backpack, camera bag, soft cooler, stroller..I felt like Eeyore! :faint: ).

For the rest of the trip the camcorder and the Rebel XT went into the backpack and the camera bag (with the P&S) remained in the room. I also carried Ziploc bags (leftover from DD's outfits) to put the cameras in during Kali River Rapids (didn't go on Splash Mountain).

DH has a Lowe Pro fanny pack for his Cannon 20D camera. It fits the camera body with a lense and two extra lenses. Just a thought instead of a back pack. Happy picture taking! :)
