Carry-on tips

The luggage has to be able to fit either under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment and they are all standard in size requirements. Yes, you can take one carry-on luggage and a personal item, such as a backpack. My backpack has my Ipod, Passporter, camera, wallet (I don't bring my whole pocketbook & I take everything out of my wallet that I will not need during the trip - less to loose), camcorder, etc.

Make sure that ALL of your toiletries are less than 3 oz. Go to Walmart or Target and you will find a ton of travel items, including laundry soap, that are within the travel guidelines. If you prefer larger versions, you can always get a set-priced Priority Mail box from the Post Office and place the items in that, then just mail it down to your resort a few days prior to your arrival date. Make sure you put your name & check-in date. Remember that all of the Disney World resorts have soap & shampoo in the room and will replace them each day.

I found that rolling my clothes saved me alot of room. Also, I only bring enough clothes for 5 days (of a 10-12 day trip), then do laundry mid-trip. I'll bring 5 shirts, 2 pairs of shorts, jeans & a sweatshirt (which I will usually wear, as I go in November/December), bathing suit, 1 pair of Crocs, undies & new socks.

Airlines' policies regarding carry-on luggage are NOT uniform. Of the airlines I quickly checked, AirTran - cannot exceed overall dimensions of 55" (length+width+height). SW - limits dimensions to 10"X16"X24", and AA - should not exceed 45 linear inches (length+width+height). AA also states that they may further limit carryon baggage depending on cabin storage capacity.

I strongly suggest you call or check your airline's website prior to flight to confirm carryon limitations.

and this is one of the issues. They are all DIFFERENT. And most of us aren't going to keep running out to buy new luggage each time the airlines change their mind.

Also, in practice, all dimensions aren't created equally. If my case is too long and needs to go lengthwise, that's a real problem as it deprives others of carryon space.

If my bag is an inch deeper and still fits easily into the above bin, that that really shouldn't be an issue, because no one would be using the inch above my bag for anything.

I have a 22" rollerboard. The measurements include wheels etc. (I think it's a 21" piece of luggage, not sure on that one)

It fits on all domestic airline sizers. (European airlines are whole different matter, just check your bags! LOL!)

My advice go with the smallest suitcase you can get away with. Look at the airlines YOU fly and get something that fits the SMALLEST.

And as I said before, remember measurements are as packed not as purchased!

good thing DH and i will be bringing our small, fit under the aisle size seats (have done this before, we know they fit!) satchel carryons (one each) - but we're expecting lots of unhappy travelers....

I apologize for that. :guilty: I thought all of the airlines had the same dimensions, but I see that I was wrong.

That's quite alright, Terk-1. My very own DSis had to check her carryon a couple of weeks ago. She usually flies AirTran and there's no problem. But this time she flew AA. Turns out she needed that extra 10". :rotfl: :lmao:
And did I mention that while she arrived at 1:00 that afternoon, her luggage arrived at 11:00 that night?? :rotfl2:

Actually this has been my expereince too. If you think your luggage won't fit don't risk it. My theory is that luggage gate checked is more likely to get left etc... generally because it's put out there right as the plane is leaving and if there is not good communicaiton betweent the Flight Attendants, Gate Agents and luggage crew they won't get it on the plane.

The last 2 trips to Disney, I have carried on a Tote bag that fits in the overhead compartment. I pack VERY VERY lite, and the bag is NOT stuffed to the gills. I USED to bring 2 bags for a 2-3 day trip, now if it don't fit it must not GO! :confused3 :thumbsup2
