We are also a family of four with a 2 hour flight... from Idaho. We do both as well. Costco comes with $500 lost luggage insurance, so I feel pretty good about that. If I have to go to DTD and buy all new clothes, so be it! I also hate lugging bags around. The kids ALWAYS flake out get too tired to carry theirs! I say carry on your dvd player and your sudoko books and let the rest be checked! Do you have a direct flight?

No insult intended at all. ;)

On our return flight a week ago, the only things we put in the overhead bin was a bag of legos from legoland and my laptop. That was for 4 people. Someone who had two *large* carry-ons was actually laying his carry-on on top of my laptop! I couldn't believe he was so thoughtless of my *stuff*. Luckily the flight attendant caught him before he did any damage.

3 of our 5 checked bags were checked by TSA. They had a small sticker on the sticker outside that says were the bag is going as well as a piece of paper inside saying that it was inspected. They also sell locks for your luggage that are TSA approved. I had that on 4 of my 5 pieces of checked baggage.

I honestly don't care what people due until it infringes on my *space* - such as putting their bag on top of my computer. :sad2: Or last year when the woman next to me put a bottle of water up above us. It leaked water all over the entire compartment and then started dripping down on our heads. Yeah - I was REALLY happy.:rotfl2:
Are the small 19-20 suitcases with wheels considered to be "large" carry ons?

I believe the *general* guidelines are 45 linear inches (length+width+height). So if it is close to that, I would consider it large. Our average carryon was probably 20 linear inches. Everything but the laptop and legos fit under the seat and we were able to easily take them out to retrieve anything we needed/wanted. Also, 4 bags that are 45 linear inches aren't going to fit into one overhead, you will have to use a neighboring overhead compartment to fit it all.......

We are leaving from Sac so I am checking everything, except the DVD! One Disney movie away from magic!

We have a 2+ hour flight from Seattle and have never had less than a 5 day trip to DL. We always check in our lugages and usually have backpacks for all 4 of us as carry-ons.

Check... As it is way to much hassle to get it all on the plane. ALso how will you get purchases home???? I detest people who put their large carry ons's x2 in the over head bins and nothing at their feet. When I arrive with 2 kids in tow there is no room above for anything. Not even the coats that we don't need.

Thank you to all for your input. After much deliberation, I think we will do both. :goodvibes
