Carry on liquid problems?

I was reading on another travel board that some people are having problems with the 3oz bottles they are putting in their quart bags for carry on.
They are saying that shampoo, lotion or what ever they are putting in those little travel bottles is being confiscated. They are being told it has to be in an orginal container.
I had bought some containers from Walmart that are marked 3.0 oz and 2.7oz
I was hoping to use them for shampoo and body wash.
Anyone having any problems with this? We are only comming to WDW for 3 days so I was hoping to just carry on what we need.Could not find anything about this on the TSA site, seems some officials are making up the rules as they go along..

I've read the same thing. It needs to be a commercial travel-sized bottle or a hotel travel-sized bottle.

If you don't like what's being sold in the little bottles, buy one anyway, drain it, rinse it out, and fill it with what you do want to use.

We're bringing some hotel stuff that I do happen to like, but will only use it one night. Our larger bottle of preferred shampoo will be in the checked luggage and delivered to the room the next day by Magical Express Luggage Service.

The TSA is RUN BY IDIOTS! (Keep that in mind when dealing with them.)

If you read thier website it does NOT say the items have to be in the "orginal" containers, but the IDIOTS get to play "let's make up our own rules" So what I did was go to Target and by 3 oz bottles of whatever. I then DUMP the stuff out, rinse the bottle and after it dries, put MY stuff in the bottle. The IDIOTS now "believe" they KNOW what's in the bottle. (Exactly HOW this makes you any safer is anyone's guess, but there you have it)

It's unfortunate that some of the airports are not following what the website says.

however, my dad works for TSA and is not an idiot! However, he works in Louisville and I have had bad experiences in Baltimore. I always ask him what I can bring on and what I can not. Because he should know.

Also, sometimes they might miss something. I left my full size sunscreen in my carryon in Hawaii. They didn't catch it. I didn't do it on purpose but it was at least 10 oz.

they miss things all the time. i've heard many a story. but i still wouldn't intentionally take my chances with it.

personally, while i'm sure it's well under 3 oz (i don't do measurements), i have lens cleaning fluid in my camera bag. never been an issue.

Sorry, but your dad works for Kip Hawley. Most frequent flyers think that Kip Hawley is an IDIOT

Now unfortuantely your dad is tarred by the brush. There are a LOT of TSA agents who should NEVER have been allowed to have jobs where they get to interact with the public... (The one who SCREAMED at a Senior Citizen "IF YOU WANTED TO YOU COULD GET OUT OF THAT CHAIR AND WALK" comes to mind as does the one who threatened to strip seach me for carrying on a corkscrew, corkscrews are allowed as he heard from his supervisor!) Regardless of what your dad says, the truth is that at least SOME TSA agents play "let's make up our own rules" so if they decide to change them good luck! I have decided NOT to take any abuse etc, but I realize most of my fellow travelers just want to get on thier plane. If I miss a plane, so be it. (I decided this after the Senior Citizen abuse above, the poor woman was crying, the IDIOT's fellow TSA agents claimed "we can't do anything" so I asked for a supervisor and another passenger and I gave him a piece of our mind about the treatment.)

(And they might miss LOTS of stuff LOL. You don't want to know what I have gotten away with. Let's just say that I don't buy the "we can see the liquids" story)

they let handguns on the planes all the time. just a month ago, a flight attendant turned herself in after she was able to carry a concealed weapon onto a flight.

plenty of documented cases where people have gotten weapons past the TSA, even for the sake of 'testing' the system.

and then of course there are the smooth air marshals who leave their guns behind in the bathroom.

No, I totally understand that there a lot of idiot TSA out there.

I have an example at Ronald Reagan Airport. Christmas travel time: The guy kept yelling at me to put my bag on correctly but wouldn't tell me what I was doing wrong. I was holding my son who was sleeping and he kept yelling at me. Needless to say, his supervisor made him apologize to me.

it's amazing how they are supposed to be consistent from airport to airport but they are not.

And they are not supposed to make up their own rules. Even if you complain and write something up, it goes nowhere.

But you can't paint a broad brush over everyone. There are those who follow their handbook.

I also have had trouble at Baltimore. TSA are supposed to be helpful and courteous. I guess it all depends on the airport!

We just recently flew from Minneapolis to Orlando and I had my shampoo in a bottle purchased from Walmart and it was fine. Maybe I got lucky and had knowledgable TSA's.:confused3

You did not get 'lucky'. I fly 2-3x a month, and have been for the last 2.5 years so I have seen all the recent TSA changes and lots of TSA agents. While I have had the good fortune of not seeing any of the monsters described here on this thread and others, I have seen some that are in dire need of a personality transplant as well as those that have been very friendly. But then again, I have seen the same types of people in the restaurant industry, the hotel industry, even at Disney World (there are several threads about good, bad and ugly CMs). I am sure we can all place co-workers into the above categories.

I do not know Kip Hawley (other than that he is head of TSA). I don't care either. Do I agree with all of their rules? No. But they are rules and at least for me, no inconvenience. I have much bigger things to worry about than the rules of the TSA, their employees and how many different ways I can flaunt the rules. And I think it rather poor taste to disrespect fellow Dis-ers or their families simply because they work for the TSA. The monsters I see described here should lose their jobs immediately. But I firmly believe they are not representative of all TSA agents. They have a thankless job. The idiots are the people who don't know the rules.

You want to fly? Follow the TSA rules. They are not that difficult. Do they all make sense? Far from it. But they are the rules. And in my years of flying I have never had a problem following them or with the TSA. And I do not consider myself lucky.
