Carry on bags

I was just wondering if anyone has had any issues with their carry-ons being too big. I just bought this great piece of vintage luggage that I would love to take with me as a carry on (I would be afraid to check it).

Now Jetblue (we are taking down) doesn't have measurements listed on their site, Delta song (our return flight) has 22x14x9. This piece is 20x15x6, do you think I could get away with it??

Thanks in advance for your advice.

You should have no problems, The overhead bin will accomodate that size bag.

Last time we flew, at the beginning of the line was a box with the allowable dimensions for carry-on luggage. I did see more than one person have to check their luggage after unsuccessfully getting their baggage entirely into that box.

Can you smoosh that 20x15x6 piece so that that "15" fits into a "14"?

Don't mean at all to be a downer, but better to be safe than sorry.

You should be fine. If for whatever reason the bag won't fit in the overhead or under the seat, they can gate check it for you. It's only an inch off, so DL gate agents won't stop you, it's just a mater of it fitting, and the dementions you gave should be fine.

I have only seen this happen in Nashville, but...

The contract employees who check your ID here have either been appointed or appointed themselves the "luggage police" If they don't "think" your bag will fit as a carry on they won't let you thru security. (They tried to tell me my laptop case was too big. I travel with it every week. It was not nice.. I was saved by SW rep who was there and looked at the man and said. What do you mean? Of course that will fit!)

Chances are that you'll be fine. One thing to realize though is that different aircraft have slightly different size overhead bins. So even those boxes that you're supposed to smoosh your luggage into to prove it'll fit aren't always right -- sometimes there's more room than that, or sometimes you get stuck on a smaller plane and have to gate-check it anyway.

If you are really attached to it and afraid it can't take it, I wouldn't bring it. Even if it fits there is always the risk that the overheads will be full before you get on and you will have to gate check it.

JetBlue does have the dimensions listed on their site.

Carry-on Baggage Allowance for All JetBlue Flights: All customers are allowed one carry-on and one personal item (i.e. purse, briefcase, laptop, etc.). Personal items must be 18" x 15" x 8" or smaller to fit under the seat. Carry-on baggage must be 24" x 16" x 10" or smaller to fit in the overhead bin.
