Carribean Beach nightmare

OP, sorry you had issues. No, for the price you're paying you shouldn't have to "deal" with a noisy fridge or stuff towels under a door. That's just not acceptable. Too bad you couldn't switch rooms.
We were supposed to stay at CBR is a few days but I switched to BC...glad I did.

I loved CBR, personally, but the place is huge. There's no way I'd stay there again without being in a preferred room. We were in a pirate room in Trinidad South and that's just too far to the main building and pool. And for us, the big attraction was the feature pool (pool slides & hot tubs are the reason we don't stay value most trips) so it would be very disappointing to stay there while it is too cold to enjoy it!

That said, connecting room noise can happen anywhere. It isn't unique to any one resort or even to value/moderate resorts. The worst experience we had with that was at BC, the family in the connecting room had the door on their side open, and that really reduces the noise barrier between the two spaces. It probably wasn't the wisest way to handle it, because you never know when dealing with strangers, but I ended up in an elevator with the mom on our first morning and simply asked if they could try to keep it a little quieter while they get ready in the mornings. That's when she told me she had that door open to hang a shoe bag on, and she must have changed something around because it really improved after that.

Sorry for your bad experience,
We stayed @ CBR in Aug and LOVED it :lovestruc, in fact I just booked last night for 2011.
I've never stayed @ POP, but have stayed @ all 3 all stars and I do enjoy the values, I just felt like CBR was a little vacation in itself. I LOVED the pool and loved the food court. Every night after we hit the parks we'd grab a snack and a cup of tea and sit outside at the tables by the fountain and just relax and talk about the day.
The only thing that I did not like about CBR was we too had a gap @ the bottom of our door, we didn't have any noise issues, but after reading the snake in the resort room thread I was checking under my bed every night lol.

The posters that think a screaming child at 6am and late at night is not a nightmare must also think that it is ok for the parents to allow the child to disturb other people's vacation. If the parents could not handle the child and make him or her behave, they should have taken the child out for a little while to calm him down or let him get rid of some pent-up energy. Some parents think that it doesn't matter if their children make other people miserable, and some just don't think about it at all!

Gasp! You actually -- SPOKE -- to the offenders??? ;)

To paraphrase the Geico commercial, "Humans, behaving humanely -- amazing!"

Thanks for showing that speaking to the people you're having an issue with can actually bear positive results!

Kids are loud, no matter which Disney resort you are in. We were staying Club Level at the Contemporary last December, and the suite next to us had 2 boys about 10 yo that were loud well into the evening and then got a wake up call from Mickey every morning at 6am (which we could hear). I'd suggest putting the comforter along the bottom of the door--it helps.

so glad Im staying in a 3 bd condo..no neighbors to worry about..and kids have there own bedroom...18 more days till our trip...yippee..

So sorry you had a bad stay at CBR. We stayed there for 10 nights in 2007, and had a great stay. We didn't stay in preferred. We were in Jamaica-great location without having to pay preferred. Beautiful resort, really enjoyed walking around, with the beautiful landscapping. Never heard any noise, and our room was in good repair. This was before they refirbed the rooms.

In all our WDW stays, we only had a problem with noise once at POR, our last day a woman moved in next door with a bunch of noisy kids she let run amuck.
Running and screaming down the walkways, back and forth, slamming room doors repeatedly, Really poor parenting. If we weren't leaving the next day I would have asked to be moved.

I was standing in front of our door watching these kids go nuts, while waiting for my daughter, and the woman wasn't even in the room, but coming down the walkway from the parking lot area and actually asked me if there was a problem  I said no- because we were leaving. I know, not the best response :sad2: but when we returned that night from the parks, we didn't hear anything.

CBR was the first moderate on property. I think that they did better with what was, Dixie Landings and PO so don't give up on the moderates yet. Actually, WL was supposed to be a moderate, which accounts for the small room size, but they upgraded to Deluxe category. We stayed there the first year it opened and I would have never considered it a deluxe.

Sorry to hear about the bad stay at CBR. We were there last year and everything was perfect. We are booked again for 2011 and can't wait.

As for the kids screaming like that...I don't suffer bad parenting well. Both of my kids are well behaved and do not act that way in public or in hotel rooms because they were raised not to act that way. I was raised that way.

That is just bad parenting.

You are right and bad parenting can be found anywhere, even at the Grand Floridian.

I'm wondering if their neighbors have one of the connecting doors open? Maybe that is adding to the volume? It really is a gamble when you stay in a hotel. You never know what kind of neighbors you will get. I sympathize with anyone who has to deal with noisy neighbors.

I wouldn't jump the bad parenting gun though so quickly. Some children really can't help it (i.e. autistic children, tourettes) and you probably wouldn't really know the child had a need just by hearing noises coming from the other room.

When we went this past Aug DD had something going on, we went to several different doctors and no one could tell us what was going on. Our GI told us to go to Disney since it wasn't anything "operable".

We went and she was getting worse behaviorally, facial spasms, taking an hour to eat. We came home and we saw 3 drs in one week, we were scheduled for an MRI 3 weeks later. School started, and within 1 week DD was back to normal, our ped. said it was her reaction/anxiety about going to school for the first time. She got herself so worked up that she couldn't control certain things, and it got worse while in Disney b/c she knew that when she came home from Disney she was going to school.

And its Disney, its hot, kids are up crazy hours, and are overwhelmed, meltdowns are bound to happen.

Sorry you are having a bad stay. I wouldn't be so quick to place the blame on CBR - those things could happen at any hotel.

Being the parent of an Autistic child I agree. But there are things you can do to minimize that. But when you have kids running up and down the hall ways screaming and you as the parent can no longer control it, that means you haven't done your job. Being autistic is not an excuse to allow your kids to run amok. I have been there and can say first hand, there are ways.

Of course, this is not the case however with 95% of the children who act this way. Parents of this 95% who fail to deal with it are lazy parents.

CBR is one of my favorite places to stay. I am sorry your not enjoying it. The issues you are having could happen at any hotel, Disney or otherwise. Yes, it is a large property and this is a problem for some. I think you would enjoy CBR more if the weather were better and you could really enjoy the pretty grounds and the awesome pool! I am staying at Pop for the first time in less than 2 weeks. I hope I don't have noisy neighbors...but weather, noisy people and the size of the place are not going to leave me with a bad impression of the resort. That would be up to the CM's at the resort...rude CM's, bad food, dirty property, letting the front desk know that you are having issues and they don't help or try to resolve...those are the things that would leave me with a negative feel for the resort.
I hope your trip is/was great in spite of the issues at CBR:)

Unfortunately I think it's "pot luck" when it comes to any room at any Disney Resort. That's probably my biggest complaint...the noise...and people forgetting that there's someone next to them or even below them;-) This has happened at one time or another in every resort we've stayed in.

Because of that, I ALWAYS request a room without a connecting door "if at all possible"...but I know sometimes it's hard to avoid. And it's not just the kids. One of our stays at the Swan we were all the way at the end of the hall which usually request for any resort (less hallway traffic;-)) and this lady decided she was going to talk on her cell phone at 11:30 at night right next to our door! She figured I guess no one was at the end of the hall, oh dah. Well you know, I stuck my head out of the door and told her that we are staying in the room right here, could you move it somewhere else please...;)

We had an issue with a frig at AKL and they did replace it when I called down but it happened the first night.

But really there's nothing worse than a kids screaming like that at 6am after a late night. So sorry to hear, but I just want to point out that you have probably been lucky at POP in the past. In our experience it didn't matter what resort we stayed at, just "luck"...;) Try to enjoy the last day and when you're gone stick a radio by the crack under the door on high volume...ahh, just kidding, but the thought sounds good, doesn't it, maybe the kid has to take a nap...:rotfl2: (with your luck they'll sleep right through anything loud)

I agree and I don't blame the resort for having bad neighbors I blame them for not making the rooms more soundproof because it can be done, the threshhold had a huge gap in it that could have been fixed.
They did bring a new fridge right away so that is a plus.

I also know this can happen anywhere, I just needed to vent and also see if anyone else had experienced the same thing.

I don't think those people knew how loud they were because it wasn't just the child it was them too. But you never know if you should say anything because it could have just made it worse....funny they must have left sometime Sat. because we got to sleep in this morning...unfortunately we were also leaving LOL

It didn't ruin our time we had a blast! The weather was to cold to enjoy the great things the resort has to offer so we might give it another try in the future. We will just make sure we don't get connecting rooms.

But I am for sure booking our trip for next sept-Oct and get free dining....how is Port Orleans resort??
With Pop you just get quick service...can you upgrade that to full dining??
That might be the answer.

any way thanks for all the imput and listening to me...

Barb
