Carpet cleaning

We have our own steamer and do it at least once a year, sometimes twice. :)

Never, except stop cleaning. We had new carpet put in 2.5 years ago. With the carpet, it has stain protection built in. Once you have it professionally cleaned or clean it with a chemical, it strips that stain protection.

My parents have a house with carpet that is 28 years old. Never been cleaned and yet no stains (wear and tear, yes but no stains).

I use Folex on the carpet to get out stains and so far ours is stain free, even with a 7 year old and a cat.

my husband usually does them but this year we had them done by Stanley Steamer - definitly recommend them! i would definitly do it every couple of years!

We have the Orbiter from Oreck....love it and do it probably 4 times a year.

Purchased a Rug Doctor from Costco. We clean out carpets every 3-4 months and as needed for spills, accidents etc. I only use half of the recommended cleaner solution. Works great and machine has paid for itself (professional cleaning costs $500 each visit!). I have two small kids, 3 persian cats and 2 pomeranian dogs.

In my previous house, I had a hoover steam cleaner, but the solution left a terrible residue that was a dirt magnet! I do not recommend it.

I use a hoover steamer for spot cleaning and rent a rug doctor 2-3x a year. The trick with rug doctor is use the detergent on the first run then just hot water for the rinse. I actually rinse 2x and the water is still grey that it picks up but the carpet stays cleaner longer because all the detergent has been picked up. I have 2 kids and a small dog and a the carpet will be 10 this year. I did it before Easter and my father-in-law wondered if we got a new carpet.

For heavy traffic areas, carpet should be cleaned about every 6 months, and for normal or low traffic areas, once per year.

Whether you have a company out to do it or you tackle it yourself, make sure to use either water only, or a water-based solution mixed with water. Many of the carpet cleaners on the market actually attract dirt making it worse.

I would follow your carpet manufacturer's instructions if you know that info, but I think most say 1-2 times yearly for cleaning.

Thanks for the tip! We have one too and I LOVE it! With kids in the house you never know when you may need it for a spill.

Since I bought mine I have used it about every three months. We only have carpet in the bedrooms so it does not take long. I have also used it on my area rugs in the family room & my husbands office. It works real well.:goodvibes

Well, we are a carpet cleaning company, no advertising here.:lmao: We always clean the carpets.
