Carousel of Progress

So glad to hear from other CoP fans! It is one of our all time favorites. It is an especially nice place to sit down and rest in a cool place on a hot and crowded day! May it never close ... although I do agree that some updating might be in order!

"its a great big beautiful tomorrow", hey best way to find a nice cool place to chill in July and Aug.

I've always seen info that it's open seasonally, so I always dread that it won't be open when I go. I only go at non-peak times, and it's always open. It is a major family tradition for us, and we ALWAYS sing. A lot of times, sadly, we are the only ones on the ride.

There's a great big beautiful tomorrow...

I also worry that one of these days it will be closed due to lack of interest & am sad that there are so few who see it. One saving grace for it during the hot months is that it is a cool place to sit for some people even if they don't enjoy the attraction for the reasons we do!

It wasn't open during MNSSHP last week, but I didn't expect it to be. A handful of attractions, including COP, were closed during the party. I made sure to make it to the Tiki Birds from 4-7pm before it closed, but couldn't get to Tomorrowland in time.

Besides the night of the party our only other scheduled time in MK so far is the day of parade taping on the 8th :( I do hope I can catch it or else I just might have to leave another park especially for that attraction! Even though I don't usually HOP, I'm so glad I always add it on "just in case!":)

We were their last year during first week in December and it was open. I rode cop when i went as a kid, was thrilled to find this ride again because it was one ride I remember from sooo long ago. Never found it on previous trips as an adult until last year, was beyond thrilled.

It is one of our favorites and a must-do every trip. I do feel that the last scene needs updating. Either bring it up to modern day (update their clothes, cabinetry, appliances, etc.) or go back to the original 60's scene. I know lots here disagree with that but that's ok too. ;)

I completely agree...it is a moment in time, either go back to teh 60's, or redo to get it out of the 90s

We love it too-although last year when we went we got stuck in scene 2 and had to sit through it twice!

The last time I was there we got stuck in the last scene and saw it twice.

I didn't mind, it's one of my all-time favorite attractions. pixiedust:

I do remember in January (our favorite month to go) it had limited hours though, as I remember walking up to it once expecting to go in and it was closed but would be open later in the afternoon. Not sure they still do that.

I remember COP as a kid at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. It really was a "wow" E-ticket attraction back then, the pinnacle of 60s Space Age technology. People should ride it if for no other reason that it's celebrating its 50th Anniversary.

I've been told that there were hour+ waits for it in 1964-65.

It's A Small World is also celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.

On a recent podcast Kathy said that it switched over from being seasonal to being open all the time recently. It's been open the last two times we were at WDW. I also love it. I remember when the theme song was "Now is the time, now is the best time..." but I like the fact they switched it back to "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow" in 2005 to celebrate DL's 50th.

Based on old DIS threads, it's been open all the time since 2005; it was a seasonal attraction for just a few years after 9/11. See, for example, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=760071 and http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1578207 and http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1769923. (Sadly, this would not be the first time that the DIS has provided ridiculously wrong/obsolete information.)

The change occurred in 1994. It had nothing to do with Disneyland's 50th.
