Carousel of Progress

Totally a "must do" at least twice on each trip. My younger DD8 particularly fell in love with it on her first trip (barely 2 years old) and it is Tier 1 for us. :)

It was so amazing to finally see this on my one trip to WDW in 2010. Now if I could only ride America Sings again. :( it was my favorite growing up.

I see that it's closing for a refurb in December. Does anyone else feel that the last scene could use a little updating? Maybe replace the TV with a thinner one and use smaller virtual reality glasses?

I think the whole attraction needs an update. When it first came out there was a big chunk of the audience that could relate to each scene. Today there's no one around that can 'reminisce' about life during the first two scenes. To go back and capture today's audience they should start around the 1940s and move forward every twenty or so years between scenes.

One of my favorites and reminds me of my childhood. My kids think it is boring but I drag them every time. Someday they will learn to love and appreciate it and will hopefully do the same to their own kids.

Yup ... my young adult kids do the same. This year I forced them to do TTA, CoP and Small World in honor of the anniversary and they indulged me a little. Usually they make me do those by myself.

I can't believe that I have been to Disney a lot of times . Saw this years ago now can't wait to see it again it is history. Thank everyone for the help:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  It's closed during the time we're visiting WDW.
Carousel of Progress- closed 9/22/2014-9/27/2014

yep and a good place to beat the heat and grab some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow....Ahhhhhhhh

I agree that it could use an update, but we just took my grandma on it and she was telling me that her grandmas house had things from the first scene, and she was a girl growing up during the second scene, so it's a little unfair to say no one is around for that.

40s, 60s, 80s, 2000s. That would work.

I don't mind that they updated the last scene (I actually wish they hadn't, but it was years ago, so not use getting upset about it now), but as one of the classic 64' World's Fair showpieces, I would hope that they would leave the majority alone and the way Walt wanted it...yes, it is dated...but it is a historic ride...changing the first few scenes would cheapen it. That would be like taking all the dolls out of Small World and replacing them with holograms of real children in each country singing the song...sure it would make it more modern and up-to-date...but some rides, especially those created for that fair, should be left as close to the original versions as possible, and with the stories saying that this was Walt's favorite attraction, it holds a special significance in my mind. It is one of the few places at WDW where you have a ride mostly unchanged from what Walt created...and is one of the only rides in WDW Walt actually touched...I would like the rest of the ride to stay the way he wanted it...even if that makes it dated..the ride's message is still just as timeless.

Ok, off my soapbox for now.

And the clothes in the modern day scene, aside from that, the ride is perfect.

December? Do you have the dates?

According to the following list, Carousel of Progress is being closed in September. I already having problems with the Haunted Mansion being closed for our trip in December, I couldn't handle both of them being closed. :scared1:

I agree. I love this ride just how it is and so do my 2 daughters who were both born during the 90's. They love this ride and were so happy to see the refurb doesn't start until after our trip is over.

It's a must-do for us at least once per trip. It captures everything Tomorrowland is all about for me.

Agreed. It was supposed to be about how technology changed American life throughout the 20th century. Beginning in 1940 or later would defeat the purpose of the attraction.

Anyone clamoring for this classic attraction to be modernized, please take a ride to Epcot to see the new Figment.
