My son absolutely adores Carousel of Progress. We see the show often. There is something that has been puzzling to us.

In the first scene at the turn of the century, Sarah is doing laundry. There is a little girl helping her. Who is the little girl? At first, I thought it was Patty, but she appears later in the scene as a teenage daughter. The girl helping with laundry is younger. She is not mentioned and does not appear in any of the other scenes. So, who is she and what happened to her?

Can you tell we spend a lot of time on CoP?

It is a mystery. Could be a daughter or a niece, but no one really knows.

Wow. I know exactly what little girl you're talking about but it never even occurred to me that she doesn't appear in any other scenes! Now you've opened up a mystery for me haha.

The families depicted in each vignette are pure fantasy.

They represent similar characters as time goes by, but not the exact same characters in each successive generation.

My theory has always been she was a victim of the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic.

Except they have the same names and general looks throughout the show, so it is the same family, but I agree that different family members could pop in and out. That is the only explanation for the extra girl.

Just like Richie's older brother Chuck on Happy Days. She got written out after the first season. :goodvibes

But anyway its not the same exact family unless they do have a Tardis or a Model X7 Dimensioniser time booth. :thumbsup2

I think of it like they are the same actors playing different roles, slightly older, in different scenes.

Oh and they can change hair. makeup and wardrobe in seconds.

They also have the same voices.

They also have the same voices.

So what we are saying is it's not the same family. They just have the same names, faces, relationships, house, and voices. But they are DEFINATELY not the same people. :rotfl:

Must be an alternate dimension thing then. Because although i could buy that there is someone who looks like me out there, I find it hard to believe they would have the same family memebers, names and voices and live in my house without my noticing them.

All we really have here is a small aging discrepency. Are we sure they don't just live in a time bubble that ages more slowly? That's more beliavable then them being different people!

I think they are the same family/characters, but not the same timeline. Each scene is showing how the family would live IF they lived in that era. It's not really a successive narrative, more of a postulation.
