First anniversary and 31st birthday celebration and would really appriciate any ratings on the Carousel. I got a pretty good rate of $79 a night. I've always stayed at the HOJO on the entertainment rate and missed out on that for this trip and had to look elsewhere. Has anyone stayed at the Carousel an what was your experience? (good or bad).

I stayed there several years ago, it was nice and quiet and my kids liked the little pool. we had no complaints :)

Well I haven't had a good experience there. 2 years ago now I had things taken right out of my luggage. I aske my dad to put my passport, ID and money and put it in the bag meaning park backpack. Everything was stolen from my luggage and then my moms souviniers went missing. Being from Canada I had to call the Canadian embassy, customs etc trying to figure out how I was getting back into my country. It wasn't till we threatened the hotel with the police and bad publicity that everything was returned. My money and souviniers were taken but all my ID and passport was sitting on my hotel bed when we got back from the park.

Nice rooms, sweet beds, great location, ok pricing but I can't say much more. Just be careful with your things.

OMG thats horrible!!! see thats why I do n ot allow anyone in my room while I am away. I get fresh sheets and bedding, towels and amenities just before we leave for the parks, put them in my room and drop off my own garbage on the way back out. I never allow anyone in my room !~! I know it does not happen a lot, but I have heard it , and I first hand saw it when I was working as a maid 30 years ago. One maid stole all this woman lingerie . I reported her and she got fired, but she never returned the stuff and the motel had to pay the lady. now days the motels are not liable and there for you are out!
when I leave and check out, my room is as good as when I got it, and we always make sure its cleaned when we get back at the end of the day, or before we leave.
I do not take chances.

teatime, How do you keep them out? I would love to do this as I am bringing a rather expensive laptop due to my photography and I know we could care less about or beds being made everyday and we can get our own towels.

I tell them when I check in that Im not to be disturbed. no one is to enter my room as I am on much needed R&R . I also put a do not disturbe sign on my door. I also put a string in the door to see if my wishes were honored and my door was not opened . call me weird, but I know what can happen, Im bringing a lap top to and its new, and something I always wanted!! I do not want it stolen!

I am a little freaked out now, as I have a tripped planned in October to stay there with my 2 boys. I had only heard great things, but I guess I will hope for the best.

everything will be fine !! crap happens where ever you stay, and if you feel you do not want anyone in your room whbile you are away just put the do not disturbe sign on the door and let the desk staff know :)

I've stayed there twice. Once we were in a standard room with two full size (or queen maybe) beds. The second time we were bumped up to a mini-suite looking room with a wooden floor and a king size bed. The first time everything was perfect, no complaints! The second time everything was great except that without carpeting the a/c was INCREDIBLY loud. It was warm yet so we couldn't leave the a/c off.

The continental breakfast is pretty good and they have hot breakfast wraps for a dollar or two.

It's unfortunate when things get taken in hotel rooms, but we are always extremely careful to lock up anything valuable in our suitcases. I don't care if you steal my dirty clothes, but don't take my pins! haha!

You have to be careful no matter what hotel you stay in. Like others said you can always get new bedding or whatever you need before you leave to go to the park. I am in no way trying to freak anyone out, but I had to share my experience. There are many people who like this place and by all means. But just be careful is all I ask.

I started a thread on this question a couple of weeks ago. Check out here:

I'll be able to answer your question in early October. When are you going?

We'll be there 9/12-15. I know its a bit closer than HOJO which is a perk and the rooms look nice on their website but the rooms always look nice in the picutres.

We have stayed at the Carousel many times. We love it and have been fortunate enough to never have had any issues with things being stolen or anything else. Where did you get a $79 rate from??

We have stayed there twice and have never had any problems at all. The room was nice and clean, and their beds are wonderful. And of course, the location is great. :)

I'm not the OP, but I actually got $64/night from bookit.com. Got there from a search at Tripadvisor. That was only a couple of weeks ago. I just looked again, and now they want $121/night :scared1:

I guess timing is everything.

How weird that your passports and IDs were all back on your bed when you got back from the park! That screams hotel liability imo. Obviously, they must have known a maid or someone else entered your room and took it, and then told them to put it back. So strange! This is not the first story I've heard of this type of shenanigans taking place at Carousel. I've read about this type of thing before. It can happen anywhere, but that is scary that it's not the first time I've read about it, and that your passport and ID ended up turning up only after you threatened publicity and legal action. I have to say that is why we generally don't care for those motels that are like 2-4 story walk up/drive up, former apartment/motels. It's pretty scary. Anybody could break open your window and be in/out in no time flat, steal whatthey want and be gone -- it doesn't even have to be the maid! And the older motels don't seem like they have a lot of security patrolling the property. When we stayed at DI&S, the only time we saw the security guards was when we couldn't findany parking! (Only for them to tell us, too bad/not their problem, they just work there!)

I'm happy to report we have had absolutely no problems at the Carousel. We have stayed there at least 5 times in the last 4-5 years. :thumbsup2

On their website they say they have safety deposit boxes available. If I were concerned with any paperwork like a passport or any valuables, I'd make use of that. Of course, no valuables usually travel with me unless it's ON me, like my jewelry or my ID and cash/credit cards. I think everything out pretty good when I travel. But a passport, that could be a really bad thing to lose to theft. I'm sorry you had a problem there.

I think I found it on hotels.com and then I contacted the hotel directly and they honered the price. I dont really like booking through those sites, I'd rather deal with the hotel directly.

I have heard story's all over the web and in my own town how the maids steal, and or those who come in and get the laundry. Im very safe, I carry all my things on me in my back pack, but my lap top will be left, hence no one gets in my room at any time. Im to worried someone will get on it and find info they can use. Its always better to be safe then sorry these days.
