arghhhhhhhhhh........

leaving in the next few hours for FLA (driving from PA). Heard you got some snow down there. What's up with that? I feel your pain. Trust me...I think this is the first day it's been above freezing up here in PA since Nov.....just so happens...I'm escaping....THRU A CHILLY, SNOWY Carolinas.

Anyway....Will we have a bad journey thru your states tonight (probably around midnight on....)? We meet 95 in South Carolina...I forget what road we take from WV down to 95...is it 76???? Close to Charlotte, etc......

Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!! It's always a pleasure driving thru your states by the way....As I'm sure everyone knows...driving on PA's hideous roads is always a comical experience.

Hope it warms up for you soon!!! :sunny:

I live in Raleigh, but I know that some places in Charlotte had 17" yesterday! Here in Raleigh the roads are fine today. The side streets are a little slushy but the interstates are fine. In Charlotte it looks to be a different story. They're plowing the main roads now, but they'll likely be a sheet of ice after dark.

Looking at the various live traffic cameras from South Carolina and North Carolina that are on your planned route, things really don't look too bad. You're interested in the Metrolina section of the North Carolina link, btw.

If you're coming down from PA through WV, you want 77 which runs through Charlotte into Columbia. In Columbia, get on 26 and follow it to 95. Have a great trip!

Hi jmkst58-
I live just north of Charlotte on I-77 (exit 23- wave hello on your way by). We got a lot of snow 9-12", but right now the roads aren't terrible. The main roads are mostly wet now, with slushy spots where there isn't a lot of traffic. Earlier today the interstate had a lot of disabled/abondoned vehicles along the sides, but I'd bet that's getting better by now. However, like Greg said, its supposed to get cold again tonight, so things may get a little icy. Worst case, you'll have to stop for the night, but its supposed to warm into the 50s tomorrow, so you shouldn't be stuck for long.

Good Luck
Leslie

I live about 20 miles west of the I-40, I-77 junction. There seems to have been anywhere from 9 inches (at my house) to 2 feet of snow along the I-77 corridor, especially just east of I-77. The good news is that the roads are in fine shape. Take it easy and you'll be fine. I don't really know what's going on over in the eastern part of the state, but they are supposed to be getting snow today.

Only danger should be stray snowballs. I'm almost 40 years old and this is the best "snowball" snow I can remember in a long time.

We are too a little north of Charlotte and we got a little less than a foot! There is still a little light snow today but most should be gone soon. DH works just north of Charlotte and says the main roads are fine. He had no poblems comming home around noon today until he got into our neoghboor and then got stuck up!!! Last night you would have had a lot of problems, but tonight you should be ok.

Wave as you go though:wave2:

Hi I live in Spartanburg SC 1 hour south of Charlotte and 1 hour north of Columbia, SC. We got 12" here last night but the roads are much better this afternoon, some are even dry. Watch out for black ice however after the sun goes down, but mostly I think you'll be fine on I-26, the interstates seem to be all defrosted. Have a great trip I leave in the morning!!!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! I'll think of y'all as I drive through.
